Ok all you trainers out there in Promuscleland. What would build overall size on the biceps, Standing Curls or Weighted Chin ups?

Great 21 people have looked at this and have no answere. Should I send it in to Flex magazine so everyone that reads it will start that type of exercise to build biceps.

I saw a local surgeon this week and after the appointment he asked 'what do you do for your biceps'. I just said 'curls'. I guess maybe thats not really the answer he wanted, but thats the only answer I could give.

Well i can tell you I have done both and barebell curls worked better. Your talking about underhand grip chins, but neither of those build the most mass for my biceps. I need something with supination. Actually reverse and hammer curls work best for me.

I like hammer curls, preacher machine (Strive), and reverse grip curls with the low pully machine. I tend to cheat too much with BB curls. But i do know that they will add some good size if done properly.

You probably should send it in to Flex, especially if you're still READING Flex! LOL!

By the way, you only let about two hours pass before your post and your follow up - gotta let us guys get back from the gym, bro! :)

As for what would build bigger biceps, it depends on how much weight you're adding to the pullups and how much weight you're curling. If you can add 100 pounds to your waist and pound out 10 - 12 reps, your bi's will be forced to grow. If you're doing standing curls with a barbell and 225, your bis will grow.

But if we're talking adding 20 - 30 pounds to your weighted chin and getting a few reps and/or curling 35's / 45's on the bar for curls then they wont grow.

But you already knew the answer to this question: Big weights will force bodyparts to get bigger. So the premise of your question is correct: Yes, weighted pullups will probably help grow your biceps bigger but only if you are lifting some serious weight.

simple...

natural heavy movements ie: hammer curls (for outer head) Straight bar (for inner head) light warm up followed by 1-2 heavy work sets protein rich diet and good genetics and proper rest. All reps should be done in a full range of motion. Huge mistake many people make is not doing these with a full range of motion make sure you curl all the way up and all the way down.

Hold the barbell/dumbells shoulder width apart and resting comfortably against the upper legs. Your elbows are by your side. Your hands face forward naturally. Keep your elbows at your sides so that they "DO NOT" move behind the body which takes the pressure off and involves other muscle to join in. Be sure to keep your back straight , you shouldn't move forward or backward to get an easy edge buy utilizing other muscle groups in the movement. If you are swaying you are using to much weight. Curl the weight up as far as you can, then and only then let the elbows move forward to create an even bigger contraction, hold for a count, lower the elbows to the side and then lower the arms gently so you feel the negative portion of the exercise. Elbows should never position themselves outward when you move them forward be sure that the forearms never reach a perpendicular position which tends to take from the muscle contraction.

Im sure you already know how to properly do these movements but for those that still dont I hope this helps.

If you are a advanced bodybuilder needing an extra edge where competing is concerned and have reached your genetic potential even after several years of a/s and hormone enhancement i suggest you use a SEO such as syntherol from www.synthetek.com if nothing else is working for you. Good luck

heavy barbell curls with straight bar and a ton of quality food. be sure not to overtrain.

The answer was there....Food. Arm size is closely related to overall body weight. Case in point.....my arms were much larger when I was larger, at relatively the same bf%. I'm now much lighter, with smaller arms, yet curling with greater weight than I did at a higher bodyweight.

And I'll get hated for this, but I will ALWAYS pull up over curl. I don't think you need to curl period. Didn't for years, until recently when I began to train with Matt Reynolds, and only at his suggestion. In fact, I can't think of many things less manly, than curling. I train in my garage, and will literally shut all the doors when I curl, so that no one sees me do what I believe to be a fruitless excercise.

But the above will have to be tempered by the fact that if I want to make my arms bigger, I'll squat. And I'd prefer to train in bikini briefs and a sweatshirt, over a tank top and sweatpants!

BICEP SIZE.

YOU WANT TO USE A MOVEMENT THAT RECRUITS THE MOST OUT OF YOUR TWICH FIBERS(FAST ,MEDIUM, SLOW SIMPLE TERMS) THE MOVEMENT SHOULD BE SOMEWHAT SAFE AND IT ALLOWS YOU THE MOST POUNDAGE YOU CAN HANDLE. YOUR BICEP IS ALL CONNECTED TOGETHER INNER,OUTER ECT. SO ONLY DOING HAMMERS ISN'T GOING TO ONLY WORK A PORTION OF YOUR BI, IT'S ALL CONNECTED ,SHAPE OF YOUR MUSCLE IS GENETIC..REMEMBER KEEP IT SIMPLE AND HEAVEY!!! MY PERSONAL FAV. EXERCISE FOR BI'S IS STRAIGHT BAR CURLS, BUT EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE I'LL DO DUMBELL CURLS FOR A CHANGE IN FLAVOR...

My physical therapist told me to do this exercise when my shoulder gets better, says it will crush you bi's and also make'em swell. kinda hard to explain but here goes. while your doing straight b-bell curls keep your elbows pinned to your side and after you do a rep, while you are still contracted lift your elbows up towards the ceiling till they are parallel with the floor. that would be one rep. he says this will work the lateral and posterior bicep. ???? i dont know havent done it yet. but i am gonna try it, his biceps are huge. tank....
