1. Heavyhitter to avoid pinching put a 45 lb then a 2.5 or a 5 just to seperate plates so you can get a better grip on them so you don't slam your finger
2. Used to have at my old powerlifting gym in the 80's. They called it the Guillotine. Loved that old press. If you slid way under you cd use lots more weight but you recruited your hams,glutes and lower back a bit but if you slid away from the machine you could get a great hit in your front quads even though the weight you cd handle was a lot less.
