Is the "new and improved" plasma worth getting or LCD TV's the way to go and what are some of the best but inexpensive brands to get?

Is Wal-Mart and BJ's the best places to get these items?

What have you found to be the best size for the money.. 37in $900 Magnavox is the best i have found but i have been seeing soem brands i never heard of that are $150 cheaper... ar ethese unknown brands worth looking in to?

since its not BB related

go to [URL="http://www.salescircular.com"/URL] and check out the prices there.. that thing is awesome, and a great tool that has saved me HUNDREDS of dollars..

samsung lcd hdtv is your best bet for the money from reading many reviews and consumer reports. I bought one and have liked it so far. You have to look at particular models for every tv not just the brand in general. Every brand has a few tvs rated good. What size are you looking for. I bought mine off the internet site. You will save at least 40% off and not have to pay taxes. Free shipping on alot of them also. I bought a 40" lcd for 1600.00 total and at best buy the same tv would have been 2300.00 plus another 150.00 with taxes it would been 2,450.00

Dragon hook us up withthat site :)

My boss just picked up the SAMSUNG 46" and he liked the picture better than anything in that price range...he also has a 21" SONY BRAIVA and that has a bad ass picture, but is very spendy...Samsung is the way to go for the price.

i heard

hewlett packard is coming out with a 100" lcd hdtv. im sure it's going to be off many people pricelists though...

First, I like Samsung at this particular time. To fill you in on some technology differences I'll give you a brief writeup. You will notice that LCDs have been getting larger and larger over time, and the large ones are more expensive than Plasma. The reason? In an LCD the reaction of the liquid is slower than that of the reaction of a Plasma. sure it was not a problem to make an LCD larger, but what happened is it would look like a blur when things started to move quickly like watching a football game. The good brands have overcome this up to the 43 inch range, but if you want a 50 inch or larger with good quality you are going to spend 2 times that of a Plasma. So why does everyone want an LCD then? Well, it is a question of longevity. Most good Plasmas have a 30,000-35,000 hour life time until it is almost black and no light. This being said, somewhere around the half life of an Plasma, (13,000 hours of use) you'll have to turn the brightness and contrast all the way up to make it look like it did when you first purchased it. At that time it would be need a full replacement. LCD has a lifeline of somewhere around 60,000-75,000 hours and when it is new and half life is in respect of this number, but it does not show as much brightness loss at that time as a Plasma. Also when an LCD goes black, you can replace the bulbs, although they are expensive at this time.

A major point to be taken here: Do NOT ever buy a demo version of these TVs to save money. These TVs have alot of hours on them from being on all day, every day in the store and will cost you more than you save a few short years down the road.

Good info Kaiser.

I bought a Hitachi 51" LCD hdtv 3 years ago. I replaced the bulb within 3 months (thank God it was under warranty), and just replaced the light engine 2 months ago. It cost $1500 just for the replacement part.

The TV repair man said alot of the lcd tv's are having these type of problems now with the light engine. Its very easy to screw them up either by dust getting in the engine or even moving the tv around while its hot.

Hopefully the manufacturers have fixed this with the new ones coming out, but its something to watch out for.

A 51" 3 years ago... Holy shit, You must have paid a pretty penny for that one back then...

LOL...damn right, then to fix the repair engine...

Holy CRAP...I haven't looked at the prices of tv's in a long time. I have to say Im shocked at the price difference....and the fact that I feel very, VERY stupid for paying so much!

I bought a 50" Panasonic Plasma a year and a half ago. I absolutely love it! The brightness and contrast ration as well as being cheaper than LCDs is what convinced me to buy plasma over LCD. As far as the Panasonic, consumer reports had it as the top rated one.

Check out www.butterflyphoto.com

They have decent prices and were extremely prompt in their shipping.

Good luck!

I have a **broken link removed** that I decided on after a lot of reading. I like it, Samsung seems to be favorite with a lot of people.

check Costco. Some of the warehouses in high income areas have great electronics, generally 30% cheaper then anywhere including WalMart. Plus they have the best return policy

go to bizrate.com they give you THE best prices of the brand you are looking for.

What do you guys think about the projector setup that projects an image onto a screen or wall? Are these any good?

What about a DLP?

I think right now HITACHI makes a 61" that is 17,000 to 19,000.

OUCH!!

I like the Mitsubishi brand. How much do you plan on spending on your new TV around $3000?
