When is the Best Time to Stretch???

Wrought? my crazy left wing nutcase from canada wrought?

Evil Dave? Crazy, GWB-loving, neocon true believer nutcase Evil Dave? lol, I know old habits die hard but if you're still keeping the $4 gas, middle-class destroying, pro-war, anti-veteran neocon faith take it over to discussworldissues.com instead of the ProM main board. ;)

how would waiting until the end of the workout to stretch relate to dante's extreme stretching?

I'm not talking about DC extremestretching at the end of the workout, and I don't think anyont else is. I see three types of stretching here. Dynamic warm up type for pre workout. DC stretching after each set, and Static stretchig post to relax the muscle and aid recovery.

Ok, and I see many responses that state no stretching prior to or during training with no differentiation and I've read the studies that oldfella was refering to where performance was impaired by stretching prior.

My personal experience is similar to yours in that light dynamic stretching during warm up helps to get things moving, DC stretching during helps keep things from knotting up, and static at the end aids in recovery, but I'm curious to see what the guys who indicated no stretching think about doing things that way. :)

Only after, and NEVER dynamic... Dynamic is a good way to hurt yourself.

I stretch hamstrings and back in the morning also.

DC extreme made me lose some mobility in my righ shoulder, i have done it 3-4 months and now i can't do some pressing mouvement because it hurts too much

I love BuSelmo's way of explaining it...I asked him once and he said think of your muscle as a toffee candy...if you stretch it cold you will rip the thing but if you stretch it after you keep it in your mouth, make it worm, it will stretch.

Basically you might harm your muscle stretching it cold...so do it always after your workout

That is a cool analogy...

dynamic, done properly, is okay. it is just that no one has the time or patience to really do it properly.

i took modern dance to help with my athletic performance, and you do about 40 minuites of progressive dynamic warmup before you really push yourself. this isn't going straight into those herky-jerky leg swings. those are dumb.

i know former martial artists and gymnasts who have problems now since they over-developed their flexibility.

you can be too flexible, especially if you are not stretching in a balanced manner. if you are always doing hamstring stretches, but never stretch your hip flexors, you are setting yourself up for low back issues.
