When your local gym opens...will you go?

The one my wife goes to is all group classes only. A bunch of people all in one big room mostly. He is in the middle of building a brand new facility now too, new construction. its going to be hard on him for sure.

Yeah, that's trouble. My idea of opening all gyms would be to have no classes. So any business that is relies on the class environment, not good.

About five years ago when I moved across the country I literally gave away my home gym that I spent years building. I’m kind of kicking myself for it right now. It was no cheap set up either.

It is very depressing to think about, but I doubt we will ever get back to where we were with the way gyms operate. They will have to limit the number of customers allowed in at any one time. As a result, most gyms will go out of business. Generally speaking, owning a gym is not very lucrative. Most gyms just "get by." Limiting their clients (drastically) will crush them. And it is sad. I met many of my closest friends through the gym. Dated girls, worked in gyms, and gym life has helped define who I am. Here is a related story.

This is sad. It really sucks :( I really don't like working-out at home as much. There is just something more motivating about the gym environment

I hope after some time it will get back to normal but in the near term it definitely wont :(

Same here. I can train at home and get a decent workout. But, it's simply not the same. I miss the environment. I look at movies like Pumping Iron and the brotherhood created by a band of misfits who have one thing in common...iron. My commercial gym is not a hardcore gym, but I see the same crew every day at 530am. One guy called us, "intimate strangers." Some of us only know each other though the gym...through the hour or so we see each other. But we recognize we are all suffer from the same addiction...the iron.

I'm already quite OCD when it comes to hygiene as is and after nearly being flown out of the combat zone due to VGE while serving in Iraq I don't mess around when it comes to germs.
I certainly will get back into the public gym as soon as it is allowed. I have high genetic diversity in my family and with proper safety measures I live without too much worry.

I do feel empathy for those greatly affected by this health crisis and if anyone posts a reply as one of those misfortunate individuals I will certainly add them to my prayers. GOD BLESS

Just saw may24th here. Will be I tersting to see announcement for sign ups, etc. Oddly enough the thing I lack most now is cardio. I hate running so I usually walk fast on highest incline monitor heart rate try to get in the 120-130, you know out of breath but not dying, definitely not hiit. Walking outside I don’t quite get that and the amount of times I do it are only once or twice a week instead of four or five. Now my workouts being body weight stuff move quickly but still, I miss the treadmill haha! Out of all the things people may say in this thread I may be the only one that misses the treadmill and not the weights.

N.J. gym owner charged with ignoring order to stay closed during coronavirus pandemic

The 52-year-old owner of a Point Pleasant Borough fitness center was issued a summons after she ignored repeated warnings from police about staying open during the coronavirus, authorities said.

Janice Lauria was cited Tuesday for violating Gov. Phil Murphy’s executive order when Point Pleasant Borough police saw people going in and out of a side door to Anytime Fitness, according to a statement from the department.

Her son, Ryan Lauria, said in an email to NJ Advance Media that no customers have worked out since the gym closed and that police explained the business was permitted to continue to sell energy drinks and protein bars.

Cops said they began watching the gym after getting complaints that it was still open. On Tuesday, officers said they saw an opaque covering on the gym’s front windows, preventing people from looking inside. When police spoke with people who walked out of the fitness center, they admitted the owner allowed them to enter through a side door to work out inside, authorities said.

Ryan Lauria said police never entered the gym or saw anyone using gym equipment, adding that his family has donated energy drinks to local nurses working overnight shifts at local hospitals.

“For the town to slander our name like this is absurd and unfair,” Ryan Lauria wrote in the email. "(Police) have never stepped foot in the business so they have zero proof anyone was working out.”

Janice Lauria, of Point Pleasant Borough, faces up to six months in prison and a $1,000 fine if convicted.

Murphy ordered fitness centers, movie theaters and casinos closed on March 16 in an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

If my gym opens I will wait a few days then go at a quieter time. Definitely will have to be religious about sanitizing machines and equipment.

Will surely be bringing sanitizer in my gym bag.

Nothing will be normal again till a vaccine comes out. Sad to say that. When my gym finally opens, I dont know how they are gonna operate.
I just picture getting to the gym after work, and have to wait outside in a line to get in, because they have to limit the capacity. Im not waiting in a line to workout..

Yes that's gonna be sucky having to wait in line and get temp checked then having to wait till someone leaves in order to be let in. F that noise.

Neither am I. That wouldn't be fun. Maybe time-slots via some app? It still won't be the same though...

Nobody will tolerate that crap lol And nobody should have to wear a mask in a gym either. People will pass out. I don't think any gym will enforce such a thing, unless the government tells them they have no choice. Well then you may as well kiss gyms goodbye.

Bracing for the roadmap that is supposedly presented in a few minutes. Right now it's looking like limited trainees, fever check upon entry, obligatory use of masks, no showering at the gym, and strict wiping down/cleaning policies.

Seeing as my gym is a complete sh*thole (but a loveable one) in the best of times, I don't see them giving a damn about any of this. They don't really have any employees to do this, either, just a bunch of students and part timers. I don't see people in general changing their habits as pertaining to hygiene in general, and cleaning gym equipment, either. Interesting times for sure.

This happens all the while they released prisoners.

In Texas they jailed a beauty shop owner for staying open and refusing to apologize to the court for being "selfish".

You can expect to wear a mask everywhere you go now. I went to Home Depot, Tile Shop, and Gas Station today, and all 3 had big signs on the door, NO MASK, NO ENTRY! The reason people are getting light headed, headaches, or maybe close to passing out is because they are breathing in carbon dioxide. Thats why you need a mask with a filter on it. I see people wearing double masks, etc. and thats not really doing you any good either. I guess will find out when my gym decides to open. I dont see it happening till fall (sept/oct)..

My state is requiring gloves at gym that covers fingers and wiping down of equipment, Gyms can open on May 18th hope my gym is ready.
