Where are you buying your chicken?

I have got mine from COSTCO for forever (occasionally the fresh cuts from wal-mart when in a rush), but i'm about fed up with their rubber-ass shit. I end up throwing a quarter of the batch i'm prepping due to cleaning it up and also the shit is like hard rubber. Maybe i'm getting pickier as I get older.

How does Sprouts and Trader Joe's compare to Costco's?

Please state if you get frozen or fresh too.

Also, i'm not gonna pay $6 plus dollars per pound for chicken breast either, or else i'll just buy steak:D

I don't go to a butcher either, but maybe i'll have to look into it...but for now, i'm gonna assume I don't have access to one.

THANKS!:headbang:

I looked into this for a while...
Up to 50% of chicken in the USA have a condition that is called "woody chicken breast". The most accepted theory behind this (might be a fact, dunno so playing safe and calling a theory) is that being forced to grow too quickly causes trauma to the muscle almost like scar tissue. It's actually pretty easy to identify because there will be white white lines/striations. Unfortunately it's nearly impossible to find full packages where non have them but some tips I read are to look for heritage breeds that haven't been selectively breed to grow too quickly and that halal chicken tends to be raised/grown more slowly...

I actually gave up and just live off 93/7 ground turkey for meat (low sodium cottage cheese flavored with PB & protein powder for non-meat)... Now I just look at the chicken for under $4 and only it if I get lucky and see some without WCB.

Good post brother, and yea, it's the woody chicken that is ruining everything for us. Went to Sprouts this morning and picked up about 10# of their 4.99/# chicken, that were on sale for $2.99.

Tried to sort out the ones with the least and smallest white lines like you mentioned. Went to Trader Joe's and their chicken had huge streaks of white lines, so I passed. I'm not gonna pay 7-8.00/# for chicken either, or else i'll just get steak.

If this doesn't work out, i'm gonna probably throw in the towel. This woody chicken shit is gross, and it's more common each year. YUCK!:banghead::banghead:
