Where to stay for the Mr. Olympia?

I've never been to a Mr. Olympia event, or to Vegas at all for that matter!

I'm going this time, but I'm noticing a lot of hotels are booked, and some are just plain expensive for me at the moment.

Any suggestions or tips on where to stay?

I'll probably be going to the expo as well, but I noticed the New Orleans was all sold out.

Hope this thread hasn't been made a 100x, if so I apologize! (If it has, feel free to link me up to the appropriate thread. I couldn't find one)

Figured I'd trust you all over the reviews on random websites

If you want an affordable place the Emerald Suites are a few blocks away walking distance. The Palms would be the nicest/closest hotel about 1 mile away. Look into both, have fun!

Thanks for the tip!

I think we will stay at Emerald Suites. I like that they have a kitchen lol

Yeah, the Emeral Suites are close to the orleans, but far from the convetion center where the expo is. I would try a cheap place on the strip like the old BarBary Coast (now Bill's Gamblin' Hall & Saloon ) There used to be a free shuttle between there and the Orleans. Then on the strip, there is a cheap monorail to the convention center. You could also stay Excalibur which usually has ridiculously low rates and still fin the shuttle and monorail. You would need to see if that shuttle stll runs between those properties, there may have been a change in ownership on the barbary coast when the name changed and they may not be affiliated anymore. Even though, the Orleans is just 2-3 miles west of Barbary on Flamingo. Decent walk or cheap cab.

I find it all depends on what your into doing other than going to the show. If your going to be going out to eat and shop and cruise the strip and all that then I suggest staying somewhere along there instead of off the strip as the Orleans is. Its a long walk to the strip and is near the end to boot. Luxor has good prices last time I checked same with Flamingo. And they are a short cab ride from the Orleans. Also the cab lines at the Orleans after the show will be horrendous so hurry out after the show.

I wish the O was held at Mandalay Bay still, such a good venue and right on the strip, way better hotel too.

Vegas hotel...

As a local, I would say check out the south point hotel and casino, which is on las vegas blvd. It is in the south part of vegas and normally has great rates, it is fairly new with good restaurants and is 10 minutes from the Orleans....

If you've never been to vegas stay on the strip so you can have fun. There are buses that are cheaper than then the monorail, $7 all day. If you want cheap casinos check excalibur, sahara, and even circus circus.

Thanks for all the replies! I guess I have a bit of researching to do now with all these options you all gave me.

I did read that it's good to get a hotel close to the expo since I heard people take quite a bit of samples, freebies and products with them, and wouldn't want to walk so far lugging all the stuff along.

Check out the Silverton, too. It's about half way between the South Point and the Orleans. As a former local of LV I would recommend renting a car as well. WAY more freedom to come and go as you please and you don't have to rely on a taxi.

Hardrock is my fav. Best pool hottest chics, great theme,etc... but was just in vegas a few weekends ago and buddies stayed at a sweet at planet hollywood and I wanted my own room and didnt feel like crashing on the floor so I booked the Travelodge right next door. On the strip and was only like $70 a night. Not the nicest looking but still fine, a/c, decent bed,shower,etc..

Buy a big 52" LCD TV and stay home. Catch the big "O" on a terrent the following day and enjoy the next few years watching all your sports shows on that kick ass TV. That's just my 2 cents to that big screen....:D
