I sleep eight hours. I wake up to piss, and I think I could be losing muscle if I fasted for this long. I am not setting my alarm because I don't want to disrupt my sleep cycle but since I am up I think why not slam 40 grams of whey protein while I piss. Is this necessary or this just wasting protein?
I read a recent article actually in MD with evan centopani and someone asked him the same question. He said he eats so much throughout the day he does not fear hes loosing muscle during his sleep. I personally have a shake right before I go to sleep with some fish oil.
i dont think it makes much of a difference, i eat all of my protien(around 500grams) during the 16 to 18 hours while i am awake and working,
but then some find it difficult to eat that much protien during the time they are wake, if thats the case then go ahead have shake with some peanut butter to slow its digestion.
Agree with Tom. You grow when you sleep. No sleep equals no growth. Of course you are sleeping, but you getthe point.
That said, research indicates that by drinking a cassien protien shake at night before you go t bed gives a slower release time for the protein therefore it is being absorbed throughout the night.
I only drink whey first thing in the morning and right after workout. Any other time and I use either a blended protein or casein protein. But to be honest I try to keep my shake intake down to no more than three a day. I try to getthe rest of my protein from whole foods.
But I know from anothe thread that Tom drinks up to five or more a day. I guess it's whatever works best for you with your work schedule, etc.
About an 1.5hrs before bed I eat 6oz of plain greek yogurt with a half-scoop of Casein protein. Then the last thing I do before heading upstairs to bed is pound a casein protein shake. Between the two should be more than enough protein to get most people through the night.
