Ok, I understand where you are coming from. It appears there is a bit of a misunderstanding here. I was not saying that steroids stop working after a period of time. I actually said that in my last post:
"You won't reach a point where you suddenly start to slowly shrink even though you are using the same amount, like people with depression/anxiety can sometimes start to slip back into it unless they increase their meds."
If all you have been driving at here is that "steroids never stop working"" then we have been in agreement this entire time.
But you seem to think this settles the entire question of whether time off can lead to gains, and you also seem to be promoting the idea that this question really boils down to one thing alone: receptor density. While the number of receptors is an important factor, it's not the only factor.
What we all know from experience is that a certain dosage of gear, with a certain diet, and certain training, leads to a certain ceiling or maximal level of gains. Let's say 1500mg/week brings a guy up to 225lbs shredded, after 3 years of consistent diet and training. He reached his max. After that point the 1500mg doesn't stop working, it keeps working, in of that it keeps him right there at 225lbs LBM. But it's no longer sufficient to produce additional gains. How does the guy get past that point? He can try to increase the dose, increase food, increase training.. up to a point.
Or he can come off the AAS for 3-6 weeks, eat as much as he can during that time to maintain the 225 LBM, and then when he jumps back on the AAS, that initial burst of growth he will experience could nudge him past the previous platue.
