Well, the push, pull, legs system certainly incorporates the principles.
Although the DC split does not, but I like DC's thinking, to do the heavier, hard stuff last because it's so draining. I totally agree.
I think a lot of these studies that base the training on eliciting a growth hormone response, or whatever, have some flaws. Particularly the amount of the hormone that is released based upon the training. I think it's very short rest to elicit Gh(not sure at the moment). The only problem with that is, yes there may be a small boost of whatever hormone, but it's not enough to make a difference, even in someone natural. Then couple that with, if it's not optimal for muscle stimulation, then what's the point. Dr Scott pointed out on IM, as he cited an article, that short rest periods are not optimal for stimulating a muscle to it's fullest.
So for those of us who use exogenous hormones, these kinds of studies don't tend to benefit all that much IMHO.

A small boost of hormone is not enough to effect the growth muscle, but that is enough to be a signal molecule to stimulate some metabolic pathways. That maybe the crux of the matter. Yes you are right. The observation of hormone response is not very strong evidence.
