Who else loves sushi and sashimi?

They sell sushi grade at our grocer. Nothing like your own fresh poke bowls.

Here's a photo of the last time I made them.

Looks so amazing. I love that the butcher gives you the entire chunk like that...when I ordered online they gave descriptions on the different pieces from the chunk, and which were used for what. Turns out the actual "sashimi" pieces are only supposed to be the very best, and that's why you typically pay a lot more for them--but also turns out most sushi restaurants don't do this. I never knew the difference until I was sitting at a sushi bar and talking to the head chef and he showed me, gave me different slices for examples (it's mainly the texture that's different). Blew my mind.

I love it. I eat it as often as possible. Just had some an hour ago actually

Love sushi, sashimi, ect... Hate sea urchin...yuck!

It is my favorite source of animal protein. I would eat it every day if it was convenient. Price isn't an option seeing as how a buddy of mine is head chef at a local place that does killer sushi.sashimi.

Sushi rice is made with sugar. Sashimi is perfectly fine though.

When I had extra money I liked using these guys and getting my own sushi grade meat

Saves a ton of money compared to going out.

Can this be stored in the freezer for a while and still taste fresh?

I don't think so...I never did, but they're good at responding so would be worth asking.

Edit: check here, there's answers

There is no official guideline for "sushi grade fish", so take that with a grain of salt, just find the best quality you can:

What is sushi grade fish and Where Do I Buy It?

What is sushi grade fish?
Although stores use the label "sushi grade fish," there are no official standards for using this label. The only regulation is that parasitic fish, such as salmon, should be frozen to kill any parasites before being consumed raw. The best practice for this is flash freezing on the boat immediately after the fish is caught, which preserves freshness and texture.

The label sushi grade means that it is the highest quality fish the store is offering, and the one they feel confident can be eaten raw.

I mash up a couple cans of "chicken of the sea" and mix with rice. It's the same right?

Hi Tenny. I believe it's called hamachi. Its yellow tail. A fatty fish...melts in your mouth as sushi or sashimi.
Take care.
MS

LOL....whatever that shit is.....its fucking delicious...
and FRESH salmon.....fattier the better...

:)

LOL...its pink....

:)

and I think they call it escobar...or something....its PURE white..
melts in your mouth

If you're talking about escolar sashimi (tuna)
If you eat too much your ass will be leaking oil, and you'll have diarrhea, just an FYI

Possibly my favorite food.

It's expensive going out, but if you make it yourself you can make rolls very cheap. Only thing that can be pricey is the fresh fish at the market, depending on what you're getting. At the restaurants though the mark up is crazy.

Sushi at home is a good way to impress the ladies lol

sushi chef told me once its a special cut from the belly.....

its the fattiest part, and rare cut...

I don't know too much about it.....lol, I normally just get the
sashimi dinner..edamame...seaweed salad...3 or 4 miso soups
veg. tempura and pint of sticky rice...sometimes a spider roll.

mine alone is usually 70$...

#fakesashimi. He was blowing hot smoke....

That's one of the cheapest pieces. Up there with talapia. No authentic Japanese restaurant carries it.

Love sushi as long as not eel. I usually get it to go anymore just so I won't place another order while there and another to go.

Lol. Otoro and chutoro are the bomb. But that's not the same as that white tuna garbage you mentioned before.

I got you beat on the 20 years of sushi eating my friend.
Trying to reach another old dog a new trick. ;)
