Who else loves sushi and sashimi?

sushi chef told me once its a special cut from the belly.....

its the fattiest part, and rare cut...

I don't know too much about it.....lol, I normally just get the
sashimi dinner..edamame...seaweed salad...3 or 4 miso soups
veg. tempura and pint of sticky rice...sometimes a spider roll.

mine alone is usually 70$...

I know what your talking about I've only been to one sushi place that has had this and it is the best!! The place I had it was an all you can eat sushi place but you could only get 2 pieces of this cut with the all you can eat meal because it is such an expensive cut.

In Japan the fattiest cut of tuna sushi goes for a few hundred dollars a piece as it is the most coveted. Thankfully I enjoy the leaner tuna and salmon sushi which apparently is lower tier fish. Ate like a king for cheap in Japan.

Now home, 24 pieces split half and half tuna/ salmon is about $50 but is a great cheat meal as it's still damn healthy but my only carb for the week.

How many of you guys live in an area where there are good quality all you can eat sushi places?
Kind of interesting how some areas will be packed with all youcan eat sushi and other places either don't have any or are so low quality I wouldn't risk it. For instance I live in Northern California and there is 1 all you can eat restaurant but I had it one time and it was low quality and just not very good. O the other hand I was in Southern California for work a couple months ago and found a really good all you can eat sushi place and the chef told me that most sushi in that area had all you can eat menus. What do you guys have in your areas?

Usually low quality ime

I love it. I'm going to a new place next Sunday to stuff my face with sushi for about 2 hours lol.

that is red tuna, fattiest cut is the rarest and most expensive called Otoro, kind of like Kobe beef with beef
no leaking oil from your ass or diarrhea from that one :)

$70 is pretty expensive, also USD
$20-$30 Canadian is the max I'd spend on sushi here at all you can eat (made by the order) places

Any other place that charges a la carte I'd eat $100's of sushi, its so expensive

also anyone like eel? I eat a whole plate of the stuff every time

here and there in the sashimi boats we get....never had it raw, I stayed
away from it.....but it pretty good....breaks up the texture of the other
fish..

My girl loves eel whenever we go out. She could eat that all damn day lol

When we went to a new spot a few months ago, her eyes got all huge when she saw the eel was on the menu and she loved how they prepared it.

It's okay for me. I'm not as big of a fan as she is of it

When we were in Florida last month she had me try octopus, it was different. We only had a few pieces as it was a sample tray. I'd try it again but it wasn't something that made my mouth water.

I was always a fan of squid/octopus, acquired taste

how do you like mackerel? I only avoid it because of the high fat content, if it wasn't for that I'd be eating plates of it. It has a fishy taste, like sardines

I usually stick to leaner stuff tuna, salmon, octopus ,squid, surf clam, etc.

FWIW, most salmon isn't lean at all...more like a sirloin as far as macros go. Mackerel still has more fat though :p

LOVE some sushi!!!

I have to have it at least once a week.

Horse mackerel and Spanish horse mackerel. Abalone, giant clam and sea cucumber. Also the sweet raw shrimp and sea urchin from Santa Barbara and Japan. I like the exotic stuff ...

Actually, the octopus isn't raw even though it looks like it is; I believe it is pre-boiled. Some places make an appetizer called "tako salad" and is small chunks of octopus in a spicy ponzu sauce. If you haven't tried it, it is very addicting.

For those that like something different, try Ikura. It is salmon roe(small orange balls but not as small as the masago). They are incredible.
