I lost the motivation for it. The cost and time needed to do it all isn't worth the reward, if there is any. You are basically fueling the fitness industry out of your pocket, and the industry/promoters act like they're doing you a favor.
While it was fun being a fucking animal in the gym, I think time would have been better spent with family and maintaining healthy relationships. I stopped competing a year after I completed my undergrad, luckily, right on time because I stated my doctorate a year later. Stopping allowed me to refocus my energy into something that will actually benefit me in the long run and give me something to be proud of.
A student, who was also my patient, is trying to continue competing while in DC school. I told him to hold off, but of course he knows better. The stress of training, dieting, 22 units per quarter, finally got to him...he was just diagnosed with right sided ODC. For what? A plastic trophy and photos for IG/Facebook. Fuck that.
