Why do we make building muscle so complicated?

I don't make it complicated at all and I think that's why I always did pretty good.
take drugs, eat proper, train proper, recover. repeat.
no reason to complicate it. imo, people that complicate it usually have poor genetics so think that getting complicated will help them achieve otherwise unobtainable gains.
Have you ever heard of Paul Dillets drug use and contest prep? I've heard stories he took whatever drugs were available and wasn't very consistent or anything and heard he lacked a lot of discipline all around but he was a FREAK.
Phil Hernon kept it bout as simple as you can and he was a BEAST.

Most people lack discipline that's it. Doing the little things day in and day out. No matter how shitty your genetics are you show me a man with great discipline and I will show you a guy with a pretty damn good physique.

Shelby Starnes is my poster child for my discipline statement.

100% agree.

About the only genetic advantage I have is I started off bigger than average - I got comments on my broad shoulders the first time I was measured for a suit at 16, many years before I touched weights.

My waist is 32" even at 6% body fat, my arms are long and appear underdeveloped for my frame, etc.

Despite having almost no genetic advantages, I've gained ~100lbs. over the last 10 years, I stay leaner through my bulks every year, am still getting stronger and stronger in my 30s, etc.

How? Through machine-like consistency every day. No missing meals, no missing workouts, no getting off track with sleep or supplements, etc., EVER, and I've tracked everything related to my workouts, diet, and supplements for years.

Some say that's ridiculous if you don't compete, but it's been absolutely worth it to me. I gave up plenty of Friday / Saturday nights in my 20s, girls, clubs, etc., to achieve my physique goals, and reaching them has given me all that back 100x more. Beyond the fun stuff, the discipline and consistency instilled through bodybuilding aids me in every aspect of my life, from how I shop for groceries to my professional career.
