Seeing threads about semaglutide and articles saying it blunts hunger and is a cure for obesity got me thinking...

42 percent of Americans are obese. We now have Uber delivery, Alexa, order groceries from home, working virtually, it seems it's easier than ever to be lazy. The fitness industry has exploded yet it doesn't seem to have affected the obesity epidemic.

Will obesity decrease ever? If so why? How high will the 42 percent rise?

Obesity will decrease when a cheap, fast, easy weight loss pill becomes available. Until then, obesity will stay right about where it is. There may be a shift in the next 20 years as the current obese population dies off and the millennials and Gen Z-ers represent more of the population. My anecdotal observations are that they are more environmentally conscious, leaning more toward vegan/vegetarian diets and generally fewer calories. So if that continues into their middle age we’ll see the percentage drop.

This is my expert opinion.
**Note: I have zero expertise in this area.

No, being obese has to be a billion dollar industry.

I'll go one step further than you. We can put a Rover on Mars, make a vaccine that used to take years but can't make a safe version of DNP? Too much money to be made treating a disease instead of curing one.

Just watch The Food Network for a week (which I enjoy). Then go watch a Network fitness show. Wait, can't find one?

No, an entire economy is built on this. From the food industry, to packaging, to pharmaceuticals, to the medical system

This is far from a conspiracy viewpoint, but there's just too much effort & personal responsibility required from an individual standpoint (which people do not and will not take), and too much money made on the outskirts of it

Hell of a lot easier to impose overweight beauty standards than fix the most American problem there is

This is a good point. If a drug was created to kill hunger that would be a disaster for the economy..food industry, food service, pharma, medical. Jobs would be lost if there was a decline in demand for food and the need to treat obesity.

Putting aside the "Big Food™ wont allow it" theory, which is horseshit, it will end if and only when there is some combination of magic pills and/or genetic manipulation (or genetic manipulation from magic pills) that can fundamentally change the variables so drastically that it overcomes the basic evolutionary issues.

Might happen while we're still humans, might not happen until we're trans-human robots.

Obesity is just disgusting me.
its likely the most simple thing to avoid. literally only ONE thing causes obesity (eating too much). control that ONE thing and voila u dont get your foot amputated...
fucking insane people can look like that and not feel completely ashamed.
like literally all you have to do to be one of the hottest guys/gals in ANY circle is just dont be fat. boom.
every stranger i meet thinks i am younger than i am just cuz i'm not fat. nuts.

Well the food supply chain is collapsing so yeah probably obesity will reduce.
This 👆
But at that point those fat fucks will probably try to eat the rest of us.

Yup. Lakes and rivers are fished out, the oceans are polluted. We'll eventual reach a self limiting population level due to scarcity of resources.

I seem to recall a natural uncoupler called usnic acid, was in kombucha i used to get like 16 yrs ago, then all of a sudden the shit wasn’t around anymore……

Hey now, there’s plenty of chubby chasers out there that love riding them waves of blubber! There’s a cat that hangs at my barber shop that loves him some BIG women! He told me he looks for the huge fat layer that hangs off their arms. Like where your tricep is…. That’s when he knows they beefy enough for him.

Just can’t even imagine seeing one of them big un’s naked. My dick wouldn’t even flinch. Most likely it’d shrivel up and tried to invert itself!!

It is getting worse and it’ll only get better when a lesser country kills a good number of our fat out of shape countrymen. The Pentagon recognized how nasty the country had become as a National Security Threat in 2017. It didn’t get better and COVID just made them as socially inept as they were already fat.

I don't think so. I work with a 20 year old guy he's 5ft 10, 400 lbs, walks super slow, he has foot issues, management doesn't like that he's so slow. And quite frankly I'm tired of moving out of the way when he comes toward me walking in slow motion, taking u so much space . I've thought just walking toward him to see what happens instead of moving out of the way. He has a laid back personality which makes it better . On his break his eats a cheese stick or pizza. Morbidly obese. He doesn't seem to care. His brother used to work there and morbid obese as well, only 21, on antidepressants and blamed quitting his job on not taking his meds which is legit. I think it's because assistant manager , she's extremely unpleasant.
Thankfully while manager can be stern and rigid sometimes, wes neutral and sometimes pleasant to be around. He got another job . May have been his excuse to get out of there.

Food stamps and other public benefits should be coded so that they can NOT be spent on sodas and junk food. Lean meats and vegetables only. If people want to eat poorly, they can only do so with EARNED money.

Oh, a man can dream. The short answer is what slesh said: No.
