How many of you have tried Dante's chin method?

I love my pulldowns, but I swear by this movement. Everytime I perform it, no matter what, I get sore in my lat's. I did some DoggChin's behind the neck style the other night and my upper lats are toast. I even feel my seratus muscles sore from it. This is one spectacular exercise. I know you guys hear alot about this from newbies and stuff like that, but damn guys, even you vets that are set in your in ways need to give this back blaster a try. It truly is the shit.

Peace,
VG

You're right!

This is a great exercise - after all these years I thought I'd seen it all, but this one's something different!

can you explain exactly how it's done?

JW

You set the bar inside a smith machine just below chest level. Then place a flat bench a few feet in front of the smith machine. You take the widest grip you can, let yourself hang from the bar then prop your feet up on the flat bench in front of you. You should be in an L shape at this point with your ass below your feet. Have a partner place some weight in your lap and begin chinning. Explosive up, controlled down. These can be performed in front of or behind the neck.

It's the only movement that gives my lats a cramp. It hits all the back muscles(minus lower) and fries me!

I don't have access to a Smith so do them in my power rack, resting my feet on an O bar at the opposite end. I have my partner place an O plate in my lap.

Great exercise, really deceiving as you start off and it feels like you can do 20 reps, but after a few reps you realize you'll be lucky to do half that.

I can really feel my lats pumped and sore the next day, hits the whole region (inner, outer and upper back) very directly.

I've been doing that for about 15 years, I thought I invented it.

if "behind the neck" i would suggest only touching the top of the back of the head no lower

I agree-I never do movements that twist joints past a normal or unnatural range of motion.
I do all my pulls to the front w/back slightly arched for max contraction of the lat.

When I do them behind the neck I go to about ear level or higher, never lower. I don't follow Dogg's training routine to the T, but I do utilize this exercise. Sometimes I do them to the front only. Sometimes to the back of the neck only. Sometimes I rotate them, front then back, etc etc. But this is one badass exercise. Dante, your a genius brother.

Dogg,

Do you ever recommend anyone to use a close or reverse grip on these as well? What other varitions of this exercise do you have?

Peace,
VG

hey guy i know some stuff about doggcrapp training but not much do you have ant links to read up abit more i cant wait till bk day to give this ago

many thanks
simon

This is very interesting. A gymnast I know, hes into bodybuilding too does these on a regular chin up bar called '' L chins'' .They are VERY difficult to do since you're keeping your body in the shape of an L while chinning, very similar to Dante's version. I need to try this one guys. Thanks for the illustration. :D
