There is something that I don't understand. And I don't believe that the vast difference in look can be attributed to bone weight and muscle insertions only.

How many times you have read on here someone's weight so you imagine some enormous person only for him to put up pics and he just looks nothing more than a "fit" dude?

It is very rare to see someone post pics where he looks like the weight that he says that he is.

For reference, I posted the first pic below many years ago. That was in a different life time when I was deep in the offseason. That is what 280 looks like on 5'11.

The pool photo is VERY recent and it's 240 at 6' (yeah, I've grown taller, go figure how that is possible). This photo is very fat obviously (look at the lower back) but it is no more than 240.
And it is not top heavy. Those are the legs a few days ago at 230 since I've been dieting for a few weeks (I was picking something off the floor and wife took the photos).

I guess I am looking for an explanation as many times I am disappointed when I read that someone is 300lbs lean which outweighs Ronnie at the same bodyfat % (and they show a scale photo too so you assume they are saying the truth) and then when you look at their photos, and they just look meh..

Hey cool pictures Big A .

Hey cool pictures Big A .
I am an old man (pushing 52) that hasn't used more than 250mg/w in almost 20 years, training once a week out of guilt and eating a VERY relaxed diet (obviously).

I am dreading getting older and older. I was in hospital last week because I tore the serratus posterior inferior from coughing too much. Who the fuck does that??

lol i understand. The body can be very fragile in a way. We must keep moving. You know the old saying, you don't stop lifting when you get old, you get old when you stop lifting.

But yeah you definitely look bigger then 240
Really? Or is it that we are so used to reading big bodyweights that don't correlate to size?

Yeah I mean it’s hard to get the full perspective from a solo picture but the width and thickness is the real deal deal lol

I'm 220 - 225 at 5'8" and I wonder the same a lot.

Sometime during the 2000s it became all about how much you weigh. I think this is when physiques took a downturn as well.
I'd see pictures of guys with very high scale weights who IMO looked unimpressive as a bodybuilder.

I'm in the "small for how much i weigh" crew. Ive always suspected bone density, but who knows. I'd say I usually weigh 20-30lbs more than people would expect by looks.

looking great for any age let alone someone that barely trains anymore , weight is just a number thrown around its appearance that really matters!

i believe bone density plays a big part in the number , but what do i know??

100% agree and I tell this to guys all the time and they just look at me like I’m talking in another language

Using myself as an example I will be competing at about 250lbs at 6ft and look okay but there’s PLENTY of guys who weigh wayyyy less than me who like twice as big

I’ve come to realise the scale and tape measure mean F all when comparing against others

Now...170 on the dot. 149 in high-school, bulked to 255 during college...tore pec and cut down to 170. Worked with Alex azarian he kept me around 220. Over the years gradually downsized, lower aas to 400max.. as I wanted a different look. 185 was a sweet spot for a while...but my bloodwork, blood pressure, energy is best at around 180. 170 I feel is the leanest I can be without feeling like its unhealthy.

Yeah there's definitely something funny about numbers and the look.
I'm shorter now, maybe 5,5 ( used to be 5,7) and 210 fat but you can clearly see my abs.
At my best I reached 225-230 but never looked that impressive!

Well 5’7” and 190-200 at 56. I’d feel like dwarf next to you 😂
I'm 5'8" 190-200 (random training and worse diet than him), and every time I go out there to see him it looks like a gorilla and a chimpanzee walking together:cautious::LOL:

I think weight is a very misunderstood topic in bodybuilding.

Yes, there are guys who weigh more but look smaller — and the opposite. In my opinion, it's mostly about proportions, not the number on the scale.
The best bodybuilders I seen (this might sound funny) they have small heads. Seriously, small heads. If you have a big head, like Urs Kalecinski for example, I don’t think he do well in the Open class. His head is too big for his frame. It just throws off the proportions.

The top guys usually have: small joints (wrists, ankles), wide shoulders, narrow hips, long muscle bellies, and yes, small heads lol
That creates an illusion. They might not be super heavy, but they look huge because of the frame and shape. But if you stand next to them and you are also big you realize you're the same size, just not the same look.
For example, I’ve posted pics before with Krizo, John Jewett, and that young Spanish guy — I think his name is Joe Paddles. I don’t look that big alone, but next to them I clearly don’t look smaller either or at least that's what it seems to me😅
Still I don’t have those crazy proportions they have. And that’s the difference.

So sometimes the guy who weighs less looks like more. And the one who weighs more might not.
