Your BIGGEST training tip

Wow..seriously u could write an ultimate training guide with all these tips!

Awesome

Don't know if this has been said , but Consistency... with training and diet.

It's ok to cheat sometimes with meal say on weekend and take a week off, if you been training hard...but if those cheat meals end up being a few during the week as well...and your training 3-4 days a week hard and end up doing 2 days week over a course of a few weeks or a month... you will be loosing out big time on results.

Train Hard - REST HARDER

True, to make gains and progress you must work your tail off.
But, to me, proper recovery periods allows your body to battle overtraining, recover, reduce injury, and come back stronger.

For me, a dynamic routine and periodization.

The best training advise i can someone is this.....

Don't go by the amount of weight.. go by Feel....

Your muscle does not know how much your lifting, it only knows how the weight feels... And form is most critical!

Everyone should really stop and look at their form.. Your goal in the gym is to train the muscle that needs to be trained..

Anything less than stellar form is not acceptable.

I have trained with some amazing pros(Lee Priest is one) and the guy has the best form of anyone i have ever seen.. and you know what?

his poundage was not that overly impressive but....

His physique sure was !

Training with him really made me stop and realize... " who cares how much I lift?"

Amen to that, don't let your ego get in the way.

Feeling the negative portion of reps in the target muscle. I always focused on great mind muscle connection during the positives, but then just "did" the negatives!

My body is expert at doing the positives with the intended muscle, but then using other muscles to help reduce the negative stress on the target muscle, even if going slow.

It took me 15 years to really figure this out, pretty sad I know...

Hammer out 6 to 12 very intense work sets for each muscle one time per week using 1 to 4 exercises for each muscle. You also split your sets in half and train each muscle twice a week (certainly good for a shocker)!

Control the negative portion of the repetition and perform the positive as explosively as possible without causing injury or taking maximum stress away from the target muscle.

Reduce sets in half for an entire week every 4th or 5th week.

Monitor diet to gain as much muscular weight possible while avoiding getting overly fat. This includes 1.5 to 2 grams of protein per lb of bw as your baseline diet.

Increase anabolic dosages when previous dosages stop working.

Your genetic blue print will determine what happens from following all the above. These are the secrets I have learned from many.

Bump for new tips

Been a great year and a half training-wise.
So.
Diet is the key to everything working, whether natural or not. Especially eating fats for cals.
Low number of sets, 3-4 days a week, cycling poundages heavy/light to allow for adaptation.
Longer negatives. Expolsive, strict positives.

What not to do:
Barbell Bench pressing sucks for me for chest development.

2 things...

- Learn to Lift Correctly (perform moves correctly and safely, feeling the muscle vs. jerking/cheating)

- Learn to eat correctly (consistent good clean eating)

Look at the people you see at the gym who go with true consistency, say they've been there for years and they look the same...they train hard they use good form but are not doing #2 obviously...

Or they eat good but train like shit or without consistency...gotta have these 2...

Looking at all of the advice posted up here, there seems to be a common theme.

My biggest tip that I havent heard yet is to listen to your body. It will tell you all you need to know. if you need to eat more, lift harder, get more rest, it will tell you. also correct form is a major key. you need to feel the contraction in the muscle and control the negative while lifting at your heavy ability

How important to stretch/warm up.
the importance of form
sometimes less is more.

just want to say, great thread. There is a lot of good stuff to remember. Now I'm sure the reason I'm not growing like I should is because of my shitty diet.
