Hey guys lets start a thread about what to do to avoid using directics for shows. With all the talk of how unhealthy they are I would like to know what we can do to get that peeled look with out using them> I know i for one have always used them for shows and in the past i used to use lasix until i had a bad experience so since i have avoided them. Now that i am getting alittle older my health is far more important to me.. So any input guys lets have it..
 
So this is really a thread about dieting then, yes? If you aren't experienced, hire a good coach and learn from them.

Diet harder. If you are asking this, you have never been lean enough.
 
Ok see that's btr answer flex. But I do have a question for you then. Why do so many of pros use them when they are peeled. Example the Italian that just passed.

Sorry if my response came off harsh, but if you knew how to diet well, then you wouldn't be asking about diuretics. Which is why I suggested to hire a good coach and learn as much as you can about optimal strategies, including metabolic prep during offseason.

Bodybuilding is not an industry generally filled with a lot of intellectual people who make smart decisions. Lots of pros use diuretics because they aren't very smart or the person advising them isn't smart. I am sorry if I have little patience for this, but I keep hearing people asking about why this pro or that pro does something. Pros are not pros because they're using the best and most optimal methodologies. The #1 reason people are pros is genetics. Don't get fooled that a pro has the best nutrition or training methods. That's just very bad logic. People use diuretics because they don't know any better and/or they don't prep well.

Bottom line: come in with as little subcutaneous body fat as possible and you will look dry, hard, grainy, full, and every other adjective you would like to hear, assuming you don't do anything drastic and make sure glycogen isn't depleted.

Since you asked to learn, I'll give you some basics. Diuretics do not select for subcutaneous or interstitial water. They act peripherally (not in any specific tissues) at the kidneys themselves. Different ones act at different parts of the renal system, but the point is they draw water systemically. About 20% of total body water is interstitial. An even smaller % of that is subcutaneous interstitial. That is the only possible water you'd even want to remove. But a far larger amount of water if found intracellularly, and you will lose water from there too. That = BAD. And you can often end up looking worse from diuretic use.

Thanks CD. Like i said i would like to learn more. I know i could of been leaner but the people i hired in the past all pressed directics and they all do around here for some reason. An when i took them it seemed like i could never get full after words.

Is there any kind of minerals/vitamins or natural stuff to take or are you taking any during that final phase of prep.

I agree most pros arnt smart and they are prob just doing what they learned long ago or what their now called guru tells them to do..

I am here to learn more so i can keep progressing.. I would like to hire a coach but money doesnt allow that at the moment. So I thought the Biggest Board would be full of info.

I am sure other people have differing opinions, but me personally, peak weak isn't really anything out of the ordinary. Mostly business as usual. Layne's article a while back on peak weak was quite good (Bodybuilding.com - Layne Norton Peak Week: Nutrition). And no it doesn't matter whether you are natty or not, diuretics really don't have a good place in contest prep. My suggestion is to really learn as much as you can about optimizing metabolic capacity. The leaner you start during your diet phase, the more time you give yourself, and the higher your maintenance intake, the more success you'll have in being able to get peeled to the bone.

No supplements for drying out are ever warranted. By 1 week out, you should pretty much be ready to step on stage. And yes, diuretics can make it nearly impossible to get full and have that nice grainy and vascular look.

Yes, there are lots and lots of ignorant and uneducated people in the bodybuilding world who do all sorts of silly things that make no sense from a scientific/biologic perspective. And sort of like I said, the better your genetics, the less optimal your methods have to be. Some people have such good genetics there's hardly a training program or nutrition strategy that they've ever tried that doesn't 'work' for them. Doesn't mean they're doing anything optimal. I hope that makes sense.

I got in the best condition off my life without any use of diuretics, i worked with Alex A and he had me using no diuretics at all. Infact we touched nothing the last week because i was lean enough not to need anything or make any drastic changes. We had run the last 3-4 weeks with Proviron and Arimidex, which gave me an extremely dry look, so to summarize,if you get lean enough, you dont need to touch anything or mess around the last week. One thing though, i did come in flat, so maybe i could have tweaked with carbs or other ways of bringing fullness up.
 
haha brings back memories.

I remember the first time I took Furosemide. Each time I urinated, it was like my morning pee. I couldn't believe how much water I lost...then came cramps which of which I took k-dur. Wasn't a fun experience at all. Dieting is safer. I now leave these drugs for the grandmas needing it for water retention in their angles lol
 
Fr my show I diet down enough to where I don't need any diuretics.. It's a lot more work but, I feel a lot better without diuretics in my system
