goodmornings
I also do them all the time. I do a couple of different variations, such as arch back, round back, chain supported and also use bands. Hey PB holy shit 725x3, What is your squat?

I'm a goodmorning'er as well. Not many still do it, but if you are careful and not overexuberant beyond your means, it is a means of getting one helluva low back.

Did them the day before yesterday and boy my back is howling today.

You have to do the Good Morning, if you train using the Westide methods! We perform them at about 80% of all our Maximum Effort Days. Dave Tate has a list of the different kinds at his website: www.elitefts.com

Right now my squat is in the mid 800's. I'm shooting for 900 at my next meet in the 308 weight class. Ermantrout is much better at explaining the way some of these exercises are done. Before my last meet my best arched back GM was 605x1 and I squatted 775. Since then I've added 120lbs to the same exercise in about 4mo. PB

From my buddy Tagg:

"...the Arch back GM described as the very top of the squat. You use a wide stance, stick your butt back and start to lean. At the point when you would normally begin to bend your knees to squat is when you stop the movement."

You can start with the bar on the pins or touch the pins, but I would not rest the bar on the pins.

No, I am not a member of Westside Barbell. I wish I was though. Since October of last year I've had a steady training partner who is very committed to powerlifting. That has made a tremendous difference in my progress. In 4 months time I went from a 605x1 GM to 725x3. My partner struggled with 315x3 his first time and has now done 605x3. Having someone there to push you is essential to progress. PB

Little late weighing in on this one
But I train with Ermantroudt. 80% of our ME squat days are a GM variation. I'm not nearly as strong as Paul Bunyan *YET*...

But my best standing bent over good morning (face almost parallel to the floor) was 405x3 prior to my last meet. I squatted 605 and was probably good for 630-650.

It is a staple in developing core strength (core strength being erectors and abs). You can't have a big squat without having a big GM -- in my humble opinion.

By the way --> Helluv a Job on the arched back Mr. Bunyan!!!! Can't wait to see you on the platform again. Your going to give me something to shoot for BUHAHAHAHAHAHAAH!

Yes BigDog, GM's are essential to a big squat. They really teach you how to strain under a heavy load. Squats are much easier than the gm's. I can't wait to get back on the platform, I'm gonna shock some people including myself. LOL PB
