BP Supplement you should try

I lurk the boards quite a bit, and of all the bp supplements I've seen recommended, i can't recall ever seeing someone mention hibiscus tea as a remedy. There are so many human studies performed that I thought I would share my 2 cents and let everyone in on what I consider the cheapest and most effective natural supplement for it. It effectively keeps me at 120/80 and I have hypertension naturally. I buy 1lb bags on Amazon of dried hibiscus for like $13 and just throw 10g in lightly boiled water (you don't want to damage the anthocyanin content so water at a low boil is important).

Here's one study where its effectiveness is on par with 50mg/d of the ACE inhibitor captopril and I'll link to other human studies following.

In order to compare the antihypertensive effectiveness and tolerability of a standardized extract from Hibiscus sabdariffa with captopril, a controlled and randomized clinical trial was done. Patients from 30 to 80 years old with diagnosed hypertension and without antihypertensive treatment for at least 1 month before were included. The experimental procedure consisted of the administration of an infusion prepared with 10 g of dry calyx from H. sabdariffa on 0.51 water (9.6 mg anthocyanins content), daily before breakfast, or captopril 25 mg twice a day, for 4 weeks. The outcome variables were tolerability, therapeutic effectiveness (diastolic reduction > or = 10 mm Hg) and, in the experimental group, urinary electrolytes modification. Ninety subjects were included, 15 withdrew from the study due to non-medical reasons; so, the analysis included 39 and 36 patients from the experimental and control group, respectively. The results showed that H. sabdariffa was able to decrease the systolic blood pressure (BP) from 139.05 to 123.73mm Hg (ANOVA p < 0.03) and the diastolic BP from 90.81 to 79.52mm Hg (ANOVA p < 0.06). At the end of the study, there were no significant differences between the BP detected in both treatment groups (ANOVA p > 0.25). The rates of therapeutic effectiveness were 0.7895 and 0.8438 with H. sabdariffa and captopril, respectively (chi2, p > 0.560), whilst the tolerability was 100% for both treatments. A natriuretic effect was observed with the experimental treatment. The obtained data confirm that the H. sabdariffa extract, standardized on 9.6mg of total anthocyanins, and captopril 50 mg/day, did not show significant differences relative to hypotensive effect, antihypertensive effectiveness, and tolerability.

Good info. Do the 10g give you 1 cup of tea? How is the taste?

It's delicious honestly, it's a very fruity but tart taste and essentially calorically inert like most teas. I make it all in 1 cup and drink it with some splenda and enjoy it. I believe in one of the studies they split the tea dose up, but 1 glass at night is enough to keep my bp down.

Thanks for sharing. Sounds good :)

Mine is naturally high even without AAS so I am always looking. Thanks man will look into it.

Is it both numbers or just upper number?

No problem man. I've honestly tried all the usual recommendations (Hawthorne, celery seed extract, grape seed extract, nitrates, cialis, etc) and this has had the biggest impact on me personally. Mileage may vary but for how cheap and delicious it is I recommend anyone with issues to try it out.

Cool info-I take a lot to keep mine in check.
Including meds- at 260 the other day I had 117/ 55 beautiful.
Hibiscus sounds interesting though.

Both but usually second number that's worrisome to me. Last time I had it checked it was 145/87 and I am pretty lean and not holding much water. I have since started carditone and some other supps.

How much carditone are you taking? Have you noticed a decrease in BP?

Look at that link I posted from WebMD. There you will see all the effective supplements. I checked mine this morning and I was happy to see a 115/77, at night it is a little higher, but that is where I like to stay. My doctor just said he like me under 135/85. The thing that brought mine down from your numbers was Cialis at 10 MG a day.

260lbs? Shit, I get above 230 and its nosebleed city no matter how many meds I choke down!

What brand do you get? Some of them are expensive?

Is this one ok?

I just pop one a day of the average dose...haven't had it checked since but its only been a week on it. Going for full blood work this week so was gonna do it all on once. Sorry the actual dose of the carditone escapes me (I take so many supps and its new so I dont remember).

A few wise gents sold me on the benefits of cialis recently and I think I am going to "research it".

I guess that just goes to show how different everyone and their pathologies are. I tried the low dose Cialis ED, and started attributing my headaches to cialis because it always gives me a minor tension headache. Thought I was in the clear since it does have some data showing its use for various forms of hypertension. Checked my bp and it was 160/90, lol.

I want to know how the Carditone works for you too. I like to downsize medicine from the Doctor, but I want something that works. I monitor my blood pressure at least EOD.
