PRE-WORKOUT SUPPLEMENTS...DO YOU REALLY NEED THEM?
It used to be a you ate a banana or a snicker candy bar before a tough workout, and that was sufficient! But now...there are a multitude of “pre-workout supplements” that have flooded the market. There’s really no good definition of what a pre-workout supplement is—and a lot of companies are just slapping it on products because it’s ‘in’ right now—but in general, it’s a product that’s intended to boost energy levels, generally though a combination of B vitamins, carbs, and antioxidants,”
Some pre-workout ingredients are well studied and can actually help improve your performance. But a lot of ingredients are filler which will do nothing at all, and may even be unhealthy and detrimental to you.
The problem with a number of these popular products, and a lot of them have some really lavish names, is that you have absolutely no way of telling how much of each ingredient is in the product. You might see the phrase proprietary blend, and it’s followed by the number of grams in the whole blend, and underneath that might be a list of ingredients in the proprietary blend that doesn’t have the actual gram or milligram values besides the individual ingredients.
This can be exceedingly dangerous because each individual’s hormonal responses and tolerances differentiate with the type and amount of ingredients that are used in the blend. For instance, some of these products, but not all of them, might have up to 20 grams of proprietary blend of several of the ingredients used. You might just be taking in a whole lot of caffeine!
If you’re not absolutely sure, then you’re just gambling with your body, and that’s no good. There is some hope though, because there are a lot of pre workout supplements that are effective, natural and they have the ingredients’ dosage listed, or just a very small amount of proprietary blend included.
Bottom line...be smart, become educated.

One of the best times to push nutrients to muscle cells optimally, so of course.

Of course they’re not necessary. Learn the ingredients and what they do and then decide if you want to take the product, or make your own with the ingredients you want.

snickers? not too sure about that. coma from the insulin use?/ sounds like a planet fitness joke

Agree, for me i wouldn't pay for "preworkouts" just use few grams of citruline malate and cialis and boom :headbang:

My Pre-workout is a 1 hour nap.

its all marketing. hype. bullshit.
like "intra nutrition" nonsense.
if u gotta eat between sets at the gym, u need a new hobby.
goddm it. thats like guys who actually work for a living, construction, concrete, roofing, saying wait boss, i need my pre-work workout.
or, hold those cinderblocks, chuck, i need my peri-job nutrition.
man up. food and caffeine. thats it,

Exactly! It's all marketing hype. Def NOT necessary

not necessary, it s bull shit business

It all depends on the individual and his circumstances, I train early in the morning and have zero appetite so an intra workout shake of peptopro and hbcd works well for me, also lets say someone was suffering from severe lethargy from HGH or Superdrol use, I can guarantee a preworkout stimulant would help a lot, caffeine alone is not the solution for people such as myself who don´t react too well to it. On another note, some preworkouts have mood boosting effects which is a plus, others can give you a really nice pump which is also a bonus. I do agree on trying to stay away from proprietary blends and knowing what you´re putting into your body.

I enjoy a good pre workout, whether I'm gaining more muscle from it who knows. Gets me excited to hit the gym and improved mood, intensity.

I do want to give a shout out to True Nutrition's brand new pre workout formula called Pre-Lab 17. I'm using it now and it has a great set of ingredients. Nothing harmful, just the opposite.

Necessary? No, but it provides a nice boost without any risk involved.

If you eat a meal 1 hour prior to workout it should be just fine. Considering some of these supps are more expensive than a bottle of gear I never use them. If you need a buzz to workout there is always Redbull, coffee etc..

A red bull is more expensive than a scoop of preworkout

Caffeine has always been my staple. Bang for buck it is the best.

I want beta alinine out of them

I drink an espresso or equivalent before I head to the gym.
Its never failed to get me in the right mindset.

Stimulants can be dangerous for sure. PWOs may contain undeclared designer stims, which isn't safe. They might be innocuous or they might not, who knows, as they haven't been studied.

However, a stimulant that amps you up and boosts mood can be highly effective in helping you have epic workouts. Many great physiques were built by many ephedrine fueled workouts. Stims are not needed but if they can be taken safely they can be hugely helpful.
