My ears have been ringing for the past couple of months, it's very annoying when there's silence around, trying to sleep.
Any info on this?

I have it as well because of my ADHD-Amphetamine. Very annoying idd. Wish I knew what you can do about it.

What drugs/meds are you currently taking? How's your cardiovascular health? How does your diet and exercise look like? Are you or have you been exposed to loud sounds at work/leisure? How old are you?

Other than stopping the drugs, do you know of anything that can be done about it?

Look at your diet and see if you're getting too much glutamate intake. Higher glutamate intake (levels) are closely associated with tinnitus.

Elvia has this issue. Hopefully he chimes in.

I've had tinnitus for as long as I can remember. Silence drives me absolute insane, especially when I'm trying to sleep. My problems started when I was a kid due to some nasty ear infections that wiped out a chunk of my hearing and left me with a nice, permanent ringing in my ears.

Having a fan running usually helps or using some other sound producing app on my phone as I'm trying to get to sleep. Falling rain is a good one for drowning out the ringing in my ears.

You and I don´t know what silence is brother, too much clubbing, concerts etc when I was younger has left me with permanent tinnitus, to add insult to injury I have delayed sleep phase syndrome, I go to bed between 11-12pm every night but basically fall asleep around 4:30 to 5 am and wake up around 7:45, I put on the radio or leave some podcast playing on my phone to keep my mind off the ringing. What´s funny is I´ve been known to fall asleep in the afternoon whilst listening to heavy metal on my headphones :) I wish the need for sleep hit me that hard at the appropriate time.

Im the same way. I finally saw a doctor and had them test my hearing too since I have some hearing loss. My loss isn't bad enough to warrant hearing aids, so that is good. The ringing though, there really is nothing they can do. just learn to live with it. He didn't make any suggestions. You get used to it after awhile. Mine have been doing it for years now. Pretty sure mine is from listening to music too loud. Concerts etc. He said the damage is cumulative, and even something like a lawn mower causes slow hearing loss. He said to wear ear muffs like you wear at he gun range when you mow the grass. I guess the small loss over the years keeps adding up.

I have a friend that the only way he can fall asleep is by listening to heavy metal to drown out his tinnitus, so you aren't alone in that method! And I hear ya on the sleep thing, I go in phases with insomnia of either not being able to get to sleep or not being able to stay asleep. About the only thing that helps is maintaining a consistent routine.

Pretty much exactly this, when it's damage to the structure of the inner ear, not a whole lot that can be done to lessen the problem. Like you though, I do take steps to not make the problem worse than it is. Noise cancelling headphones help, that way I'm not blasting one thing in to my ears to drown out the sound of something else.

After a concert

After a concert my ears may ring really loud for about 2 days. Last year I saw Slayer with Anthrax and some other bands like Lamb of God, my ears rang for 3 days! The other bands were loud but then Slayer came out and turned the volume up to 11!

Just saw Metallica not long ago and they weren't too loud. I actually bought some nice ear plugs for it but didn't use them because it wasn't that loud. My ringing was a bit worse though for about 12 hours. I probably should have worn them. https://www.amazon.com/Eargasm-Musi...sr=1-1-spons&keywords=eargasms+ear+plugs&th=1

I tested them out and they don't block too much of the music, still lose some of the high frequencies though but those are the ones that damage you.

On a side note, the military has been developing combat systems that emit loud high frequencies to paralyze the enemy. Probably cause permanent hearing loss I bet. Tinnitis up the ying yang.

I'm about to hit 30, I've been off of everything for a bit, trying to go back on TRT. Diet is good, no processed foods or anything, balanced carbs fats and protein. Low cal diet.

my lipids are fine if that says anything about cardiovascular health, HDL is at the bottom tho, about 39 which is borderline low and LDL is borderline high, which are genetics because I'm athletic and fit otherwise. I have to add that I don't suffer from hearing loss, I actually have good hearing.

Yes I do. It's hard to recommend anything as people can have it for so many different reasons. I don't even know why I first got it but it's likely a combination of inner ear problems (labyrinthitis) and loud music (clubs and headphones). I don't ever listen to music on headphones now. Certain drugs can definitely trigger it as well.

My tinnitus comes and goes. I had it for about 6 months then it went away for a short time and it's back again. It's not as extreme this time though. Although you get used to it after years of suffering so if a "normal" person could hear what I am now they would probably go crazy :D I can sleep when workmen are drilling outside really loud as the noise blocks it but I am so used to the noise I can still sleep :p

A few supplements that may help include (many didn't perform well in some studies):

Taurine
Ginkgo Biloba
Zinc
Vitamin B12 (synthelamin)
Melatonin

As Stewie posted lowering dietary sources of glutamate (glutamic acid) could help as well. They include:

Processed/cured meats
Matured cheeses
Mushrooms
Riped Tomatoes
Corn starch/syrup
Bone Broth
Soy sauce and protein
Hydrolyed Protein
etc

I started working at a call center in Dec. (hopefully temporary lol) and am just now starting to get the ringing in my ears from wearing the headphones 9 hrs/day.

i have had the same ear rining issue for about 5 yesrs now. never goes away, but much worse when there is low noise from TV or low backround noise. been readin and readin and researching for the last year. I may have found the culprit, as ive been using it regularly for the last 5 years...sometimes in excess, as i get it in liquid form, which can vary in strength. Cialis. im taking a 4 week break to see what occurs

What did that doctor in Israel do to your dad to help him out? As I sit here now I am acutely aware of the ringing inside my own head.
