Its something that alot of crossfit people do. I tried it once, fuck that noise.
 
its not really "something that crossfit people do". i have been doing crossfit exclusivly for 4 years. i am competing in a crossfit compeition in 10days. in my time in crossfit i have seen one person do these and that was just this week. i meant to ask him about it but didnt get the chance.
 
I see them often. They are a variation of a front squat, works the core a bit more than fronts. My strongman/vikingfest dudes do it
 
i love front squats but i will keep them on my shoulder. :D
 
Ive seen some crossfit fail vids on youtube where they do those.

Looks like if the weight is too much you'd automatically bend and your back would enter the equation. Not interested in that mess. I do front squats across my front delts with wrist straps wrapped on the bar and wrapped around my hands holding the weight up. Makes it much easier to balance heavier weight.

i dont like the idea of straps while squatting. what happens if you need to dump the weight?
 
I actually believe this has a lot of use for the strongman. Big carry over to stones. Weight is in a similar place.

Yeah I guess I don't get the most out of my squat sets because I don't have a spotter and I definitely DON'T do that. I've never actually seen a guy dump the weight at the Golds I go to.
