Are you getting 1ml vials or 10ml vial of your TRT prescription?

Question for the group:

Is your pharmacy giving you 1ml vials or 10ml vials or you TRT prescriptions?

My CVS started giving me several 1ml vials each month instead of a single 10ml vial and just wondering what everyone’s experience is? I’m not a fan so wondering if I just need to switch to Walgreens or another pharmacy or is this the trend now?

Thanks!

They did the same to me. They said it was because even though the 10 ml vial was covered by my prescription the duration of time between the first and last dose was beyond what the manufacturer stated as within the “expiration date” (the clock that starts with the first pin that pierces the vial stopper)

The part that ticks me off is that ten 1 ml vials costs about 40% more than the single 10 ml vial

It varies everytime for some reason, last refill was a 10ml but the time before that it was (10) 1ml bottles. Its funny cause its the same amount I'm still getting 10ml everytime

If you use insurance you are almost always stuck with 1ml vials. Insurance companies don't want to be giving out more than a 30day supply. They do this because they want to get you on mail order pharmacy 90day supply. It's not an "out in the open" policy, they are basically screwing smaller local pharmacies. This all started when insurance companies were allowed to purchase pharmacy companies. Anyhow, it's up to your insurance, you CAN get your doctor to SPECIFICALLY write you for 10ml bottles and they will have to give it to you (you can google how to do this), but you will have to pay out of pocket ($80-90) per bottle.

I tried to fight this for the longest time, now I'm glad I get 1ml vials, my insurance company will let me fill them every 25 days (most will, your doc will never notice either) and they actually have a tinny bit more than 1ml in them, it's like 1.1ml, I get about 225mg (measured on a slin pin) out of mine. They are overfilled because you normally lose .1ml in a standard syringe when using a draw needle or if you don't put an air bubble in it you will lose .1 in the syringe.

I second that. My endocrinologist prescribed 1ml vials from Westward. They always have a little bit more than 1ml in them. The TRT clinic here prescribes 10ml bottles from a compounding pharmacy.

My first script was a 10 ml bottle. Then the refill was 10 x 1 ml bottle. Then back to a 10 ml bottle. The price for the 1 ml bottles was at least 40% more. I just figured it was what the pharmacy had in stock.

so far I'm still getting 10ml vials, after ins my part is 30 bucks.

I'm about to refill my script. I pay out of pocket for test cyp.

Last time I filled at walgreens and they gave me 1 mL vials. I agree they're sort of a pain in the a** and way more expensive w/o insurance.

I think costco still does 10 mL westward test cyp 200 mg for around $65. I'm going to fill there. I'll know tomorrow and if anything has changed at costco I'll report back.

I test low on westward test cyp compared to Sun Pharmacy Test cup. Both are strait from the pharma. Anyone else have that problem?

Anyone without insurance can use a coupon to get a low price on most drugs, check goodrx for coupons. Walgreens will give you a bottle for $40 with the goodrx coupon.

Basically all the drug companies give discounts to their drugs for people without insurance, but no pharmacy will tell you about it.

Exactly what i do.40 bucks for a vial that lasts several months. Fuck insurance and all the hoops they make you jump through.

Been on trt for years and I’ve had this same issue. Costco no longer does 10ml vials. I’ve never had my prescription covered by my insurance and last purchase of 1ml vials was 38 for 3 of them. My doc sent me to a compounding pharmacy where it was 65 for a 10ml bottle.

Pharmacy switched over to 1ml and it's costing about double what I paid for 10ml vial. I was paying $13 for 10ml and now $24 for 10 1ml vials. Still cheap either way.

I tried using a goodrx at Walgreens for mine and they told me they wouldn't take it due to it being a narcotic. I'm not sure if this is just this store's policy or if all Walgreens enforce this. I ended up just using my insurance but like most others here, they will only give me the damn 1 ml vials. I just got put on trt about 2 months ago and will be calling around to see where I can use goodrx and buy 10ml vials.

How did Costco work out for you? I am in the same situation as you and I'm looking an alternative.

If you use insurance, you are going to have to deal with 1ml bottles. It's actually a good thing since they are overfilled by .15ml.

If you don't use insurance and you want a 10mg bottle, your doctor just has to write the prescription specifically for a 10ml bottle.

I've been using my coupon at Walgreens for a few years and never a problem. Maybe the clerk made a mistake. I have insurance but hate dealing with the 1ml vials.
