So this morning had my right bicep repaired, from distal bicep tendon rupture and finally coming to after sleeping all day.

Question, I can make a fist with my right hand. However, I can not open up that fist unless I use my other hand. Also , cannot fully extend my fingers straight.

It’s 0130 or I would call the doc to ask this question. They also gave me a nerve block through my trap today.

It the nerve block causing the lack of mobility and limited range motion in my hand, or is this this common with the surgery.

Thanks

i had do the same surgery with 2 incisions, it's normal that u can't open the hand, in my case was the local anesthesia . i had resume the use of my arm after 1 day from surgery

It’s probably due to the nerve block they used during surgery but could also be related to swelling.

Give the Dr a call when they open and ask , I’d be willing to be that it’s normal

It's most likely from the nerve block. The drugs usually last several hours. If a nerve gets damaged to the point you loose motor function there is usually pain and tingling associated.

I had this for about 3 months after my second surgery. Swelling near the elbow caused temporary damage to the radial nerve. In my case, the finger extensor muscles on the back of the forearm were paralyzed. It was scary, but I did regain full use of that hand. It took a couple months to be able to open that hand slightly. I got full control back over the next few following weeks.

Good luck. Definitely ask your doctor about this. I read that temporary nerve damage is fairly common, but permanent damage is rare.
