Boxed Egg Whites?

I noticed today that on a box of egg whites there's a recipe for smoothies. It's makes no notion of cooking the egg whites. My question is... Are they ok to be eaten straight out the box?

Yes that's the whole point of boxed egg whites.... they are pasteurized.

I thought the point was so we didn't have to crack the egg and separate the yolks. I guess I'm just not as smart as most people.

:lightbulb:Wait....I did forget to mention the other recipe on the box. It was for an egg white omelet, the omelet recipe required cooking.

So I guess its safe to say that "the whole point" of egg whites in a box isn't to eat them raw.

Interesting I will have to look at my box never paid much attention as I have always just made omlettes with them no fat pure protein. Still not sure I'd want them in a smoothie though.

cook with them, put them in smoothies, drink out of carton, its all good.
like someone else said, they are pasteurized.

I have been drinking a large carton a day for years and im golden!!!
