PGP/GPG Encryption

I know Rory used to be into this kind of thing but I haven't seen him post in a while.

With all the Domestic spying, NSA, DEA, FBI, and every joe shmoe tech savvy wanna-be spy able to read emails so easily, I'm wondering why I haven't seen more people on the board talk about PGP/GPG encryption. I know we talk about staying healthy, proper diet/supplement usage, etc but this seems like the kind of thing that's either overlooked or not talked about enough when it would be beneficial.

I know securenym and countermail have PGP integrated and that a lot of us use these services but I would be willing to bet most of us don't use it.

I've gone through the process of making a private key and sending test email and it is actually very easy to use. How many of you use pgp encryption? How many know how to use it?

I dont know what you're doing so what level of anonymity you need.

But using a VPN that registered outside of the USA or their jurisdiction and then using an email client thats outside the USA and their jurisdiction would be a wise idea. Or securenym with a VPN.

I'm talking about for the average promuscle user. I realize these aren't DNM or anything but just being secure in our communications to sponsors and each other is good practice.

I know you could use I2p, tails, vpn, tor, etc etc but for the scope of this thread I mean just using PGP through any common email service.

It's always good to think OPSEC. Especially for the amount of time it takes to encrypt, decrypt, which is basically a few additional key strokes, it provides piece of mind. This of course only works if sponsors adopt it too. I think most people think "secure email is secure" but it just doesn't work that way.

I know the logic behind not using it but it really is just lazy to not familiarize yourself with a useful tool to protect yourself. I look at like this, most of us lock or doors at night because it's easy. PGP isn't as easy as turning a latch but in the realm of privacy it's analogous.

never trust an email provider to do your PGP/GPG encryption. do it yourself and use an offshore email server
