nVidia DVI/HDMI to HD TV Aspect Ratio (Fit To Screen)

There are some known bugs in the control panel of nVidia and Aero Desktop. Good thing is there is a workaround. For a lot of HD TVs when using native HDMI or DVI (NOT VGA), you can set your native resolution in the control panel and both ATI and nVidia and you may experience problems with sizing. In other words, a portion of your screen will be off of the viewable area of the TV. A few of the new TVs have fixed this problem with their own "Fit To Screen". Most of the older TVs do not have this and the problem really is on the TV side, not the video card or driver side. nVidia has a sizing control setting that does work but must be set a certain way prior to adjustment. First set your native resolution. nVidia should do this automatically once you connect the TV and reboot. When you reboot you may find that you have the problem listed prior. FIRST: Check your TV in settings to see if it has a "Fit To Screen" under advanced options. This will fix the problem quickly. If it doesn't go into nVidia Control Panel. You will see the items to the right. You will see "Resize Desktop Screen Size and Position". You can try this, then select "Resize Desktop". Your screen will blink a couple of times and more than likely it will come up with the top left of the adjustment screen showing, but you will not be able to see the adjustment sliders. If thie is the case, hit ESC and it will bring you back. This is the problem and it revolves around Windows GUI shell. Shrink everything down, and right click your desktop, go to Properties. Set the Theme to Windows Basic, and Apply. Then go back into nVidia control panel and try again. You will more than likely see the sliders and be able to adjust the size at this point. Close out nVidia control panel, enable your enhanced desktop again with normal desktop preferences, then reboot. If upon reboot it goes back to the original size, do the same thing again and reboot. It should stay permanent until you update your video drivers from then on.

BTW, more than likely this is also the case with certain ATI card/TV combos. I do not have one right now to try, but it's an easy fix to try if you do have this situation with ATI.
