Wii hacking?

Ok, so I asked a friend about setting up my new Wii (finally got one as a gift...would never buy one myself) to download games for free. He said not to do it...a friend of his downloaded some software off the net to soft mod his wii and it jacked it up and Nintendo refused to repair it. I am not so interested in downloading new games but i would like to play all the old games i used to own back in the day for NES and SNES....I feel I should not have to pay for them all over again. But then again i love torrents and only pay for movies that all members of my household really enjoy...I would have to say that for every 30 videos i download...one or maybe 2 are worth buying.

That all being said, anyone here have one soft modded (no mod chip, just software) and it is working fine? Damn, I need to find out what the software is on my current system too cuz that may make a difference, right?

yep, ive done it. i have nes, snes, sega, on mine as well as 96 games on my hard drive. its easy to set up. google wii mod packages, really simple and takes a few minutes. all u need is an sd card for nes and the old system stuff. The hard drive is for storing the wii game disks. The software will also rip games from disk to hard drive making them accessable. So get fom redbox, and bam, F R E E....

Just use ModMii. It is a tool for use on your computer that will pretty much automate the process of hacking your Wii and keeping it updated with the latest cIOSs and tools. They have a Google code page where you can download it.
