Google tracks consumers’ online activities across products, and users can’t opt out - The Washington Post

By Cecilia Kang,

Google will soon know far more about who you are and what you do on the Web.

The Web giant announced Tuesday that it plans to follow the activities of users across nearly all of its ubiquitous sites, including YouTube, Gmail and its leading search engine.

Google has already been collecting some of this information. But for the first time, it is combining data across its Web sites to stitch together a fuller portrait of users.

Consumers who are logged into Google services won’t be able to opt out of the changes, which take effect March 1. And experts say the policy shift will invite greater scrutiny from federal regulators of the company’s privacy and competitive practices.

Ive been using Bing as my search engine for quite awhile now, since I heard about how bad the tracking is on google. Ive been told its not as bad on Bing, but who knows.

been that way for awhile. Called google adwords

Thats what I would say too. I have a gmail account and get ads for things related to my email. I don't much like it.

Yea, pretty much how google has always been.
And if your worried about it then just don't log into google services and you'll be unaffected.

I personally wouldn't stop using google services because of it though, they rock.

Hell their going to see all that porn ive been watching:eek:

Anything we can do to prevent this shit?? Like delete our browsing history?

so now how am i supposed to search for gay male mexican midget mudd wrestlers????????? SHIT!

Will those of us that use google chrome just be royally fucked?

Probably. They might be able to track your activities but it's unlikely it'll be used against you by some law enforcement agency. Now, if you are already being investigated then they could use this to f*ck you over.

As a long-time consultant in the evil world of IT solutions, I can tell you that this is NOTHING new. The only difference is that now Google owns a much bigger slice of the internet traffic, and they are trying to consolidate the information that had been gathered separately for YEARS so that it is more affordable for them to manage. In doing so, this also opens several obvious possibilities for them to bank enormous piles of additional revenues through targeted marketing to a "captive" audience.

Google, Gmail, Chrome Engine, Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, YouTube, Amazon.com and many many others are all in the process of profiling everyone on the planet who frequents their services. This is all being done in the name of good intentions, but we all know that eventually this will be used for pure evil. (Social Security... nuff said). No I am not crazy, or a conspiracy freak, or paranoid, or even mildly melancholy. I am just a simple realist who has sat in on many of the meetings and witnessed the incessant drooling that these companies have at the insane profits that they are about to reep... all thanks to the gullible public once again.

If you are a frequent consumer of these services, and you have volunteered your entire existence to cyberspace as you fluttered along on the wings of your social butterfly... then you are FUCKED. Nothing you can do. Just accept it and move on. Google and its partners already knows that you will fall in line anyhow, or there would not have been a public roll out of this new phase in the plan to further subjugate the masses in the first place.

On the bright side, the information that is gathered will be used almost exclusively to make surprisingly accurate assumptions about the products and services that you would likely have an interest in purchasing, not about your porn habits or torrent downloads or bulletin board preferences. However, as information consolidation trends make it more efficient for law enforcement to chase down the little guy, well.. we all know what happens next. We may have 3-5 years before that becomes a reality (5-8 at the most). TRUST ME.

The primary point that I wanted to get across without sounding too morbid is that the information to which Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook, etc, etc, has access is cumulative, it has been systematically collected for at least 8 years, and it has reached a critical mass that now allows active profiling for nearly every living human being on earth. Understand this and be extra careful from now on. There are ways to remain mostly in the shadows but you must take the time to learn.

How do we remain in the shadows or better yet, start hiding in the shadows?

If you wanna go psycho paranoia then start hacking your neighbors wifi connections use double VPN services with virtual computers and pay with everything in gift cards LOL...

But I dont think you have to do any of that just yet...
