I think bubba is the only one who gets what i'm talking about (everyone else wants to brag about which is best...i'm not concerned with which is best)
IF the program is FREE ....what are they doing to make money on you? NO COMPANY spends money without trying to make a profit.
Some companies will create viruses to keep them in business as well and only the "Paid" version will remove it.
GET IT?
THEY must be using that info to track your activities...AND selling that data to whomever will buy it (companies purchase data all the time---big business).
Of course they do. You agree to the software collecting information in the privacy policy which most people never read. Most software have two completely different set of docs. End user license agreement and that states you agree to their separate privacy policy and agree to any changes that may occur to the policy.
Funny....on some of my machines....i don't even have anti-virus SW and they work fine....no viruses EVER.
Must not be looking at enough porn
On my main machine...i have AVAST and it says it picks up shit...all the time....or SCARY PART IS....Knows which sites i'm visiting...and even warns me of MALWARE on a particular site.
The reason it tracks ALL your sites is to try an find an orgination of a virus or malware, and which site it came from.Thats how they can warn you because they have tracked back malware from the site on other users.
NOW...how does it know which site i'm visiting?
Keep in mind everything you do on a computer can be recorded and logged.
HOW does it know a site has a virus?
Your software on your computer wont know it has a virus until it detects it. You'd be amazed how a simple command can infect your computer without your knowing. But it may recognize the site and warn you that its detected virus from the site before. Imagine a centralized computer that holds the data from thousands of users. A random person visits site x and his software communicates back to the computer and tells it everytime it finds a virus on a site. The main computer logs it and communicates with all the computers using it to warn the users it has detected a virus from site x.
You can't get a Virus from a site unless you download something....(or you
have the unfortnate bad luck of being directed to a site that automatically downloads a code to your machine).
I asked Rory to chime in....hopefully he makes it over here.
