Kindel Fire vs Kindel for a non techy

How is the web browsing capability of the Fire for a non techy?

It's for my cheap CPA Wife, who makes a lot of money. I have an iPad. I do the GH thing, I spend $100 on ammo everytime I drive by a Walmart. TKL owes me a top of the line iPad, and she doesn't have a clue. Give her a $200 Fire and it's OMG! We are going to skid row. The rub is she will check the price.

Is the color screen and web browsing good enough to make this a viable web surfer? Otherwise I will just get a $79 version for reading books. And buy my GF an iPad. (that's a joke boys and girls)

A Fire is fine...until someone messes with an iPad 2. If you just want book reading and some light web browsing capabilities then Fire is best bang for your buck. iPad is faster and has more memory and more capabilities but if you don't need them then save $$$ and get a Fire for sure. Only complaint I have seen with light/moderate use, you really can't have more than about 3 tabs on the browser open at once...around 5 tabs will shut the browser down. Not a big deal once you know that...just have 1 to 2 things open and it's fine. As long as used around WiFi and don't need to roam with it...then the iPad would be needed to connect when not near Wifi.

Kindle Fire HD is out now...


4g so no need to be near a hot spot. but the cost now is $499. I may opt for a ipad...and download the Kindle App.


There is a Kindle HD without the 4G that is less expensive...but the big draw to the new kindles is that it is much bigger than the first generation.

Kindle Fire is the best for the kids on long trips when the car doesn't have a TV/DVD player. Picture quality for movies, TV shows and books is great.

My wife's got the Kindle Fire.. Great for reading and overall very good incorporation with amazon products (video, music etc).

Personally, I'd look into the new Google tablet. $199 and probably better.

I have a Motorola Xoom - pretty cool gadgets man.
