I visit a lot of sites that have streaming sports even and sometimes online movie streaming sites. I am sure they are not good for the computer.
So what can i do to prevent the detrimental effect.s

clamwin works ok, and it's free.

U can also download a trial copy of malwarebytes

I use Trend Micro Housecall free online virus scan.I run it every couple of months or if my computer seems screwed up.Anti-virus programs slow down a computer way too much for my liking.

Nod32
the lightest and the fastest. you only need to buy if to get updates, you can download it directly from the website.

if you dont want to buy it gets the update codes from nod325.com, no need to update everyday, once a month does it.

NOD32 by far is the best AV around. I would place Kaspersky as #2. Dont fall for the Norton marketing ploy...it is nowhere near as good as NOD or Kaspersky.

i use kasperski's and it's fantastic! and i run malwarebytes every so often

AVG Internet Security 2012.

We use it here in our office domain server, and we've never had a single issue.

I also have a license key that is good until February of 2018.

Let me know if you need

Microsoft Security Essentials does the job well, and it's free:

Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows

^^^ This, and I would HIGHLY recommend you get MalwareBytes and/or SuperAntiSpyware:

Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware, anti-virus and spyware removal download

SUPERAntiSpyware.com | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!

You can also activate the MalwareBytes real-time protection free for 30 days. I would recommend purchasing it after the time is up, as it'll actively prevent new infections.

AVG and AVAST are good free ones.

Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2

Using Kasperski for years on different 5 computers and never had any issues, can't go wrong with that one.

x2 on the Avast. I've been using the free version for a couple years now and haven't had any virus issues. The thing I like about Avast also is that it's pretty much non intrusive. You get an ocassional popup that it has automatically updated, but it doesn't appear to slow up speeds or cause any glitches of any sort. Very pleased with it.

I also have Malwarebytes downloaded and run that manually every now and then.

I am a Systems Admin for a college at my university and we use Forefront (the enterprise version of Microsoft Security Essentials, basically the same thing). I recommend it. Lightweight and works efficiently. To play devils advocate, all of the popular antiviruses are good, they work all pretty much the same way. If a virus is going to fuck up your computer it will do it with any anti-virus.

Definately avast.com the free version, just remember to register it.

NOD32 hands down
