Hands down the iPad. Samsung makes great phones but they got a ways to go on the pads.

Ill be the odd man out and go with the galaxy tab. Ive got the galaxy tab 2 and enjoy it a lot. Very easy to navigate and fast as well.

Yeah I would definitly go with the galaxy tab also.

If your going to get the note pad 10.1 then think about it...

2gb ram
10.1" screen
be able to do split screen
and 1.4ghz quad core process

WAY faster, much more multi-tasking, much better features. Also the pen is pretty awesome because when you use it then the screen won't respond to your hand (which is not that useful unless your drawing or note taking).

Now my customers tell me that their use to the ipad because they own an iphone and ipod but seriously it's a tablet. If you have reached the point in your life that learning how to use a new interface for a tablet it's to hard for you then I don't know what to tell ya. If my almost 80 year old grandma that doesn't even know how to use a computer can do it then almost anybody should be able to also

Go with what she is more familiar with. If she has an iPhone already, she will have a selection of apps and be used to how the iPad will work, same with the Galaxy. If you are going the Android route, I would look heavily at the Nexus 10 from Google and the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity. The Galaxy fails to impress me compared to those two.
