My Kaspersky license will exire in a few days and I have read that Norton in quite good too, so I would like to hear your opinion about it . Thanks.

Kaspersky is hands down the safer of the two. However, if it is not set up properly you will have one bloated, power hungry program on your hands.

I have a very powerful PC and still noticed Kaspersky's presence. I'm still tweaking KIS 2013.

That said, I know a lot of people that swear by the modern free AV/IS programs out there.

CNET.com free antivirus I use avira it caught Trojans Norton and avg couldn't find plus Norton is huge bloatware not very good avast is great as well

Many AV programs, you can set the depth and scan options ...depending on the configuration, some may appear slower than others due to the depth of scan...the deeper something scans the slower it is, so there's a balance you have to consider.

AVG free is nice, the virus definitions are the same as the paid versions, you just get less bells and whistles which typically are not needed anyways....they tend to be bloat to me.

Also, as I type this, people are creating new virus/malware. All AV software companies are always a step behind. So even though you may feel you may have the safest AV, if someone created a new virus, and obviously won't be part of any definitions update, all will likely miss it during any type of scan.

Aside from AV software, try to avoid using JavaScript and other scripts that are used for most sites. I use a program called "no script" NoScript - JavaScript/Java/Flash blocker for a safer Firefox experience! - what is it? - InformAction which is a fantastic way to prevent all scripts from running when you enter a site. You have to have a bit of knowledge of how to use it, but it gives you the option to allow/disallow scripts from running on a site. You'd be surprised as what runs when you enter a domain. This is a very good way to prevent malicious software from unknowingly running on your computer.

I can't tell you the last time I got a virus. I use a sandbox for testing software which I'm unsure about...

Good luck!

If you are planning on purchasing an internet security I would go with sophos it's US based, good real time firewall, and they remote log in and remove any viruses found for free. For free Protection I usually recommend Avast.

I vote for Norton, been using it for years with great results.

If I had to chose one...Kaspersky.

But I never use virus scans. Maybe every 6 months I run diagnostics and all that with different virus scans for 6 hours (they are all automatic) and check if there was anything.

Just learn to torrent from good sites only and if you are going to watch porn go to sites that are known for them such as pornhub or any of its sister webistes and you should not get any viruses.

For your browser install ABP plus on all of them and that should take of the pop ups and everything else.

I am very nerdy and I try a lot of different things...I also worked in retail since I was 15 saving up and paying my way through college and for 5 years at best buy I had many many MANY angry customers for notron virus scan but rarely any for Kaspersky for trend micro (even though customers don't really know much rarely but still something to give you some feedback.)
