Are you one of those guys that wakes up each morning dreading the 'shave ritual' as an evil necessary accompanied by the usual skin rash, redness, heat and skin inflammation making you arrive at work looking like youve fallen under the lawn mower?

All guys sympathise with this scenario as at some time or another, we have all been there. However, it doesn't always have to stay this way. There are many effective tips with shaving that can actually turn things around and in reality, can actually make shaving a pleasurable experience each morning.

We have previously discussed How to Examine your Beard Growth and that you must always shave with the direction of that growth, allowing for the fact it does change across different areas of your face. Once you know this, the following will make a world of difference to your daily shaving routine.

1. Use a Face Scrub at least twice a week. Make sure its a gentle natural based scrub thats not like sandpaper otherwsie your just damaging your small blood capillaries leaving your skin red and blotchy. We recommend Vitaman's natural herbal Face Scrub which is also anti-bacterial. Regular exfoliation helps keep your skin smoother, prevents blackheads and acne.

2. Start your morning shave by soaking a face cloth in fairly hot water-then squeeze out water and apply /press into area of your face/neck etc you want to shave. Do this 2-3 times and press until cloth starts to cool. This helps soften the toughest of beard growths, while also raising the hair follicle up and off the skin allowing for a closer shave with your blade.
It also helps increase blood circulation to the area, which also warms the skin, again allowing for a closer and smoother shave without dragging on the hair follicles.

3. For those guys with a very coarse beard growth, you can additionally apply a few drops of a natural warming Pre-Shave Oil, which will give a increased benefit of the above and also allow the blade to cut through coarser hair much easier without pulling or dragging, reducing skin irritation and inflammation. VitaMan sells an amazing 100% natural warming Pre-Shave Oil.

4. Don't use any foaming or lathering Shave Creams, regardless of their marketing, these are a guy's worse nightmare! Made with foaming chemicals and alcohols, that dry out and irritate sensitive skin -so beware! Go with a mositurising natural Shave Creme. It may seems strange at first because for most of us, we have always used foaming shave gels and creams. But after a few goes, it soon feels and becomes quite normal and you will see a huge difference in how your skin feels and looks after each shave. Again, make sure your creme is natural based and doesn't contain artificial fragrances or colours as these are major causes for skin reactions on a guys skin.

5. May sound obvious, but there are still so many guys who are still applying alcohol based After Shave Colognes and Cremes to their faces post shave. Putting up with that stinging, redness and inflammation!
Time to man up and throw that stuff out the bathroom window! Forget the massive marketing from these cheap product brands, what you need is a post shave balm which is natural and free of chemical and synthetic/ artifical fragrances and alcohols. It must cool, soothe, calm the skin and reduce any redness, heat or friction related skin irritation. Again, you can't beat VitaMan's natural After Shave Balm. It's so good you can also use for severe sunburn, minor burns and insect bites. Basically its like First Aid in a tube!!

6. Lastly, it's so simple- dont keep using your razor when you know it's getting blunt or when you can start to feel it dragging on your skin or pulling your beard growth! Throw it out and replace asap. It's almost certain it will cause shave rash, so buy up your blades in bulk so you never run out! There's some great blade deals online!

Finally, make sure as you shave, that you rinse your blade under running hot water as steel cuts closer and sharper when hot, so you will get a nice rash-free, smoother shave.

These tips will ensure that in future you will actually look forward to your morning shave routine!

Really impressed with Vitaman products. Surely the best ones in the male category .

V-Man,

Any further recommendations based on one with this;

1) I get lots of ingrown hairs and nicks. I use generic razors/gel(Gillete Fusion), how would you go about using the scrub/oil/creme? Which to avoid or which to emphasize?

2) Any specific brand of razor you recommend. I do have somewhere a nice Merkur model, but in regards to shaving the neck area, the chin area, and the mustache I haven't done it where I haven't gotten cut or severely cut.

3) If your routine is shaving every Monday-Wednesday-Friday, you would go Scrub/Oil/Creme Monday & Friday and just Oil/Creme, Wednesday?

Similar results for females???

I also have issues with ingrown and razor burn and I shave almost daily.. Any tips or advice and recommendations of products to try.

They sound like great products however the language within the post raises a myriad of regulatory issues because the products are all legally classified as cosmetics.
