Trying to explain your love or a passion to someone who just doesn't get it is a waste of time. We've all tried but people don't get it.
Plus I've very tired of the "you could die at any time" bullshit.
Do you know how many MORE random joes there are that abuse gear VERSUS real bodybuilders??? Why are we not seeing these Joe Schmoe's keel over and die? haha
I don't even want to get into it.
Well it’s not bullshit, it’s a fact... And maybe the fact we haven’t seen “Joe Schmoes” drop is because they’re unknown people...
But haven’t the number of pros and number of people on this site alone (not to mention others) who have died or have serious health issues speak for themselves?
They do say ignorance is bliss so maybe you’re just not paying attention...
I understand the passion thing, even if it isn’t exciting to me personally.. What I don’t understand is the fact that it’s about something that has way more negatives than positives..
I never said dying at 50 was a guarantee but it sure as hell is way more likely... I mean, fuck, haven’t Dante’s 100’s of posts spoken for themselves?? He claims he’s seen HUNDREDS of bodybuilders over the years with serious health issues (some who’ve made it through the other side and some who unfortunately succumbed to their issues) so are you calling him a liar?
You can’t name 5% of that amount of people who died in any other sport in the same amount of time probably combined.. Including the extreme sports I mentioned..
And for the accountability/discipline reasoning, there are sports/passions that involve the same if not more of those factors and you get to keep your health... Dying is a factor for everyone whether you’re a bodybuilder or extreme sports athlete or whatever, we can all die at any moment crossing the street...
But I find it a lot more interesting when I see someone like say Alex Honnold who just did the documentary “Free Solo” climb El Cap with no safety ropes or anything... It’s literally climb the hardest wall in rock climbing perfectly or die... How’s that for discipline and accountability?
The guy did what he did and the fact of death being in the picture doesn’t matter because we can all die crossing the street, I’m sure some of you are thinking, but he got to the top, has his health, has made more money than 99.9% of bodybuilders, has been on a few TED Talks, has written a book, and has traveled all over the world...
The fact of death isn’t a factor when I see all those positives because again, we can die crossing the street...
But when it’s a passion to be in the worlds most boring sport, to look good for 1 day, make zero money, I guess you can call it travel when you go to different shows/expos but you have to pay your way there so it’s better to get paid to travel, right? And your health is significantly at risk MAJORITY of the time, because let’s face it, when you’re competing you’re blasting and cruising constantly to make those improvements, right? That’s what I don’t get..
Yes people love different things and we’re all different, but even to what Elvia said; “Some people like bodybuilding and some like extreme spots and some like chess and video gaming and some like alcohol and drugs”
Well bodybuilding in a majority has a benefit closer to alcohol and drugs more than video gaming and chess because even those guys have their health (even if they’re fat/obese and lazy, there’s obese lazy people who live to be 80) and make shit tons of money.....
Seems like the few of us who are realists really get your guys posing trunks in a bunch... I’m not trying to shit on anyone, just stating facts and asking questions... But I guess I’ll have to deal with the “Because I like it and that’s it” response....
