Poll: Should you shower (or wash the site) before you inject?

Main Question:

Should you shower, or at least wash your injection-site with soap and water, before you start your injection protocol?

(By this I mean, before you swab the site with alcohol.)



Bonus Questions:

• Is washing necessary, or is it overkill?
• Should you wash with anything stronger than regular soap? (i.e., Hibiclense or surgical scrub, or something anti-microbial)

I think it depends on whether you are overly hot, sweaty or dirty.

I don't shower before swabbing but I also don't work in a hot or dirty environment

I never do anything. Draw and stick. I went rafting about a month ago with my diabetic neighbor. I watched him pin skin though his wet shorts. He says in 20'years never a problem. I'm 5 years, no wiping vial top or skin. Never a problem. I guess Im due?

I do have a friend that he never whips anything and I've seen him pinning with the same needle in two different spots I taught he us crazy but never had problems on top he dose use 4000-5000mg of gear a week too

I allways do both as long as you rinse the soap off before using a wipe

Most of the time it's just wiping with alcohol, and lots of it (just make sure it's dry before the pinning as u don't need that 'sting'. I have found that pinning right after a hot shower seemed to soften the area and pinning seemed to go smoother.

Swipe with alcohol pad.
They don't wash you at the doctors office and those places are loaded with germs.

I never inject after a hot working day all sweat and dust attached to my skin..

I would assume everyone has their own protocol.

I for one do the same thing everytime.
1. Shower
2. Wipe with a swab the vial and injection site
3. Pin
4. Swab the inection site afterwards
5. Swab the vial before storage.

Granted, there is some over kill in there. However, it only takes one bad infection to make your life hell for a while. So I would rather take extra steps.

Boil a little water, put in bowl..
Drop in vial or vials..
Get in shower..
Get out.. Dry off fast..
Swab vials.. Get new swab.. Swab inject areas..
Draw oil... Relax.. Shoot..
Swab areas...
Swab vial before storage ..

Dump boiling water down drain..

Make coffee and breakfast

I would use common sense it takes 1 sec to wipe your leg with alcohol so why would you not take precautions to prevent an infection.

I've done a vast number of jabs - alcohol swab only - and have never had an infection at the injection site.

Are you guys nuts? Self-injections? You should never inject yourself, that should only be done by a qualified healthcare professional... That said, I've never once had them ask me to shower, or have they ever washed me with soap, just a dab of alcohol...

I always wipe the area with an alcohol swab,remember it is goin into your body and any little piece of dirt or ne thing that you could have picked up during your work day or at the gym I always swab b4 I pin just my opinion though everyone is different
