Pain in Shoulder, Is it a tear?

:confused: I have had pain in my right shoulder for a little over a week now. It is located on the upper part of my shoulder where my collar bone ends. It is sore when I touch it or lift my arm past past 90 degress. Should I have it checked out or will rest be good enough? :confused:
 
Well...

What you describe could be several things, but it sounds suspiciously like a problem in the AC (acromio-clavicular) joint.

One thing you might want to try and determine is this:
In the past week or so that this has bothered you, has it improved any?

Soft tissue like muscle will improve at least some, and will feel worse after use or later in the day.
Connective tissue stuff, like strained tendons and ligaments, tend to be very stiff and uncomfortable when you first get up, but feel better as you use them a bit.

If this hasn't improved at all that you can tell, I'd get it checked.

Its a little of both. When I lifted on Wends. it felt better afterwards. But on Fri. I was building a deck so I had to dig post holes and it has been really sore yesterday and today.
 
Do you do real heavy shoulder presses and heavy bench press?
 
Shoulder press no, and bench I do a 20-15-10-10-20-50 rep cycle. Top set is only 225lbs. not alot of weight. But in the bottom set of 50 usually don't get them all cause I lift to failure.

Why so many reps? I have found over the years that lots of reps really play havic with my joints. Maybe it's just my age~!
 
I had the same issue, went to the doc and they had no idea.....they were thinking it was an combination of a few things.
1.bicep tendenittus
2. rotator cuff tenndenittus
3 possible impingement
..so a shot of cortizone in the cuff and on my way..
Still hurt after 3 weeks....no upper body lifting either........
back to the doc.....
he felt where i was having pain, near my collar bone on top of my shoulder..
took an x-ray and another shot of cortizone under the bone.....that helped but still issues. the x-ray came back and I have a spur on the under side of the bone thats pinching on nerves, tissues and the muscle....but he wanted to be sure it was'nt anything else so he sent me to get an MRI.
MRI came back ok, no tears or tendon issues, so basically they said that the spur is my problem and if I want the pain to go away I would need surgery.
the surgery has'nt been done yet and I think that when I really go after it, benching twice a week is when it really inflames and hurts to the touch.
The doc said I could'nt do damage, but could continue to lift as much as the pain lets me.
The surgery is'nt bad in and out plus 3 wks in a sling two wks rehab....I just have too much going on right now to have it done
