Follow up ref my back surgery. It has been scheduled for 8/2/07 My question is this? I am 41 and have never used anything except over the counter supplements. I am wondering what if any benifits I may get from using HGH during my recovery. My back suregery will consist of the fusing of L-4, L-5 and S-1. They will then place two rods and 4 screws in place. Any advice would be appreciated. I have not asked the doctor performing the surgery about this. The surgery will be at John's Hopkins in Baltimore. One of the best in the world. Thanks!!

Just curious as to what yuor diagnosis is?

Why is such an extensive procedure being performed?

Doing an admittedly-quick search of PubMed, I found no articles that looked at exogenous GH administration and surgical recovery.

I have read where it's used to treat burn victims. But dont think I have read where it been used in clinicle situations for back or other orthopedic surgury's or post surg treatment. I can ask a few surgeons I know if you like.

Diagnosis/plan

A lumbar decompression and posterolateral pedicle fixation. My back is pretty much toast, and if I want to function at all with less pain this the best they have to offer. Realizing I will have to give up all future weight bearing exercises that will effect my back. Future back surgeries will have to be done, time frame will depend on how I choose to change my way of life. I asked the question reference GH for a better fusion maybe? I may be barking up wrong tree, I don't know. That is why I put the question out there.

Have yuo looked at Laser Disc Decompression?

It might be worth it to see if this will work rather than fusion. Of course, I don't have yuor chart and history, but if yuo've got bulging and not sequestered (blown out) discs, this procedure might at least put the fusion off for awhile.
