i'm trying to lose bodyfat and retain muscle. i'm consuming 1.5 or more grams of protein per lb of b.w. i'm getting hardy, gaining some mass and seem to be leaning up slowly. i just don't want to lose muscle. my training and and diet is pretty tight. small meals every 2-3 hours. high protein and low-g.i. carbs. more carbs in morning and post w.o. carbs come mostly from good fruits and vegetables and legume sources. i don't eat meat, only fish, eggs and dairy. cut out all white starches (no potatoes, pasta, bread). do eat yams, multigrain pasta occassionally and very dense bread sometimes as well. have a very good "UDO's" oil in my shakes along with inulin fibre and lots of vitamins supplmenation. i also take glutamine, creatine and BCAA as well as orthonine/argininine tabs before workout and before bed. i've lost 10lbs of fat over the last 3-4 months and have kept/build muscle.

i was doing HIT cardio after my workouts 5xper week. trainer said not to do cardio after workout. he says do in the morning on an empty stomach and keep doing HIT and try to work up to an hour. he feels that HIT is just a way to get people in a condition whereby they can sustain a longer cardio session at an higher intensity. i'm starting to do 30min. sessions reaching about 148bpm. i'm 44.

any comments would be most appreciated. also i'm in my 3rd week of a 10wk cycle of Test E at 100mg per week. (I know!, it's a low dose. I'm starting out moderate and working with my Dr. to see where I will take this after my cycle and my blood work. Oh, what kind of blood work should I get and what should i be looking for. thanks very much.

I think your program looks pretty good. I'm a firm beleiver in keep yor protein at 2 grams per pound of lean body weight. Fats should only be what you get from you lean meats, plus some flax oil or fish oil for EFA's and a bit of avocado or raw nuts to get at least up to 80grams a day.

That leaves carbs to be the deciding factor on what can be cut & manipulated.

I think what you are doing for cardio is good and the goal of 1 hour is sound. Soem people might say you are burning off muscle by doing it and that you can do it by diet. That may be true but there is the health aspect to look at as well. Cardio is good for you!
