I had one of the shittiest workouts of my life this morning, all my lifts were down, felt like such crap that I had to cut the workout short. My suspicion is that I am overtraining. I am training DC style, using rest pauses/extreme stretching, and am currently natural. My first thought is just to go with straight sets from now on, rest pausing really beats the hell outta me. How do you guys deal with this, how long do you take a break from training? How do you know when to get back into the gym? Help is appreciated.

No not overtrained, LIKE ME just tired and frustrated at the first cyclers here wanting to jump on everything in the shopping cart!! LOL. Sorry 6.8, just venting a bit! Bro take a week off from the gym and go out and do some fun shit instead of training!! You will feel so much better, both body and soul!!:D

Hi 6.8,Are you doing correct dc or, a d.c style of training using the rest pause and stretching principles ? how long have you been blasting , sounds like time for a few weeks of cruising, hows the sleep ? It held me back for a while when starting dc and felt overtrained when geting much less than about 8 hours EVERY night. It is a very intence training method so you would realy need sleep and nutrition at its best to make constant progress. I am by no means an expert on dc but have been following it correctly for a few months now and the above is what i`ve learnt so far in that aspect. Hope it helps.

I'm a big fan of just cutting a bad workout short and leaving it there. Happens maybe once a month but you just know when your not going to get anywhere.

A week off when physical and mental fatigue comes on does wonders for me and I usually come back refreshed and stronger! Hope everything works out for you.

Well now I'm not only overtrained, I'm sick! I'm sure the two are related because I NEVER get sick (been almost three years). I must have really stressed my immune system out, now I have a cough, stuffy head, and achy joints. There go my gains for this month, I'll just have to start again when I'm better. Thanks for the advice.

here's a very good simple rule i would follow...

if you are not getting stronger, train less. if you are not getting bigger, eat more.
(obviously this is with regards to a good diet.)

dont make it more complicated than it really is. DC training, while i love it...is very tough on the CNS. your CNS should be your first concern. overtraining your CNS is the worst thing you can do, and i would imagine you are feeling the effects of it right now.

I'm 100% on that too. If I'm not feeling my first exercise right, I call it a night. Maybe once every few months, but I'd like to think I've kept from injuring myself a few times that way.

Losing Muscle

Just to keep you guys updated, I was running a fever of 101.8 last night, going back and forth from burning hot to icy cold every 5 minutes. This really sucks! I am not able to eat as much, I have been eating a lot of soup, fruit, and drinking lots of juice and green tea. I have dropped a lot of weight already, down 12 lbs to 205 pale and flat. :( and probably will continue to do so until I have my appetite back. It's back to the grind once I feel better, hopefully all the weight have lost is mostly water and I will be back in the gym in a week. I know I can bounce back from this, it just sucks to watch myself deflate like a balloon! Maybe I should start a thread in the photos section to document how fast gains lost due to illness or injury come back. Thanks for the help and advice.

same thing is happening to me. Cough, chills, sweating, flat, felt week in the gym. Im going to take next week off.

But yes this is a sign of overtraining and a cruise is needed. I train dc style to and cruising is just as important as everything else. They all fit in together.

If you find a cure to this shit tell me... its been linguring for about 2-3 weeks now...

All better...

I dropped down to about 200 lbs. and have not trained in three weeks. This flu bug really took the piss out of me and I am just now starting to feel 100%normal again. I missed a lot of work too which is beat 'cause I was kicking ass, now I'm behind. :( I appreciate everyone helping me out along the way. I am seriously gonna start a "muscle memory thread" so everyone can see how fast gains come back after a layoff. I think it would be cool.

sorry to hear that you got sick bro. i had the flu last week and didn't pay much attention to it cause i thought i was just "tired". so i kept pushin myself in gym all week and then last weekend it worsened into pneumonia. i've lost a lot myself over the last 2 weeks, and am just now starting to feel like a human being again. im still gonna take a few days off before i get back in there, but sometimes when you're sick you just gotta take off and rest or IT WILL GET WORSE! hopefully you bounce back quick man.
