A real "Noob" Question

Alright fellas, I got my 20 vials of test enth for my pet dog, but I got a big time Noob question...they are, of course, in small glass vials. How do I go about opening them...or drawing the test into the syringe. I know, horribly noob of me to ask, but what the hell, there is a first time for everything. I wouldnt want to screw up experimenting with it and waste a precious vial!!

If they are what I think they are you will need to snap the top off of the vial. Just place the vial in your fingers and leave the top exposed. Do not squeeze the vial but push agaist the top of the vial sideways. It should snap off cleanly. If your vials came with what looks like a small file in them then use that to score around the narrow part of the vial. Once the top is off draw up and go!
If they are capped then snap the cap, break the inner seal and poke the needle through the rubber stopper.

Truth be told I am a teacher of sorts. I deal with first time gymmers on a daily basis. I write programs for them to follow and have to teach them each and every move in it. SO patient is what I do. Hey we all need to learn. I can attest to how hard it is to snap the top of off a vial. How many guys have had a hand full of oil and glass because they crushed one??? LOL

I just thought of something...if I snap off the top, wouldn't the oil be exposed to the air...causing it not to be exactly sterile anymore?

I am assuming we are talking about 1ml amps? You will draw up all of it into your dart. so none should be left behind. If it is capped as I described then you would snap off the cap, expose the rubber stopper underneath and draw up what you need and put the cap (plastic one back on it) But it sounds like you have the 1ml amps. Just snap the top off and draw it all up. Please dispose of thoughtfully.

one time i was trying to clean break the top of one of those viles with my bare hands and i busted it in with my finger and cut the finger really bad/deep, so i started using a stapler to smash the top off. just put the part you break off in between the jaws of the stapler and close it. usually breaks pretty clean.

weird and i guess this isn't the proper way to do it but it's how i used to until i got one of those little saw things.

Don't forget - most ampules have a mark where they are pre-scored to make snapping easier and prevent you from cutting yourself with a handful of glass. They're made to snap away from the mark. The mark is usually a dot or sometimes if it isn't marked, if you look closely, you can see a little dash where the glass is scored.

Or if its stubborn.... to open an amp safely and cheaply, just buy one of those plain metal files from the hardware store. Scratch (or score) one side of the amp on the neck with the edge of the file. You'll know you are there when you feel the file drag on the glass vs. sliding. It only takes a few times. Then the neck of the amp will pop off nice and clean.
