What are some opinions of having a 2 to 3 beers on a friday night? I really like beer.....not getting shit-faced... but sitting down on friday night and drinking 2 or 3 really good beers (micro brews or something that I brew myself, never mass produced swill) I have completely quit getting inebriated for a few months now and it has definitely helped my physique. I am very discliplined about what I eat and I feel so guilty for drinking beer?!?!?!Thoughts?
 
depends on your goals. if your seriously competing then id say not during the season, but if your not competing, then moderation is the key. a couple of beers a week wont kill you.
 
I agree. It probably has no place in contest diet, esspecially the last month or so. If you're realy diligent about your diet all week and you're just talking 3-6 beers or so on a Friday, you're probably ok but even this depends on your body and how it responds. When I was younger I could get shitefaced every weekend and the abs never went away....Today, whole different trip.
 
well, I am currently bulking and training for strength and on first cycle. I drank 4, 12 oz beers last night and feel like shit this morning. F*CK beer. :mad: I poured the other 2 out.
 
Some of those who know me, remember i got in pretty freaky condition in 2007 and i was drinking 2 coors lights a night all the way till i was 4 weeks out. I was drinking them at night to relax and help me sleep.. ( 100calories and zero carbs each).

When i stopped drinking those beers my hams and glutes were already in and i got in crazy shape. For some reason, i lost the taste for beer since then and never drank it again. Personally I would not be afraid of a few a week. I proved that I could drink 14 a week. ( i would not advise this).

What?? i have never heard that..im not drinking right now..nor will i go back to the grey goose orange and soda waters either...I work in a beautiful huge Irish Pub..and let me tell you..And let me tell you..the staff can throw them down like its no bodys buisness..The owners are always lining up jeigerbombs for the staff when they get off of work..not to mention..the free drinks and shots that are always being offered..and to top it--you can have a shot on the clock if a customer buys it for you...

Since ive started my contest prep..and not drinking..my strength has gone thru the roof.. It takes such will power to work in a lushy bar and not to mention serving yummy fatty food..day in and day out

Is that right? I read that it doesn't convert T to E; but, rather, causes a sharp, but very temporary, boost to LH output. This increase causes a corresponding increase in E which is not so temporary. In a non-alcoholic who is drilling a few beers on the weekend, it's not a problem. But, over time, with continuous abuse of Alcohol, you can develop severe estrogen related side effects.

That's what I've read a few times anyway. Can't put my finger on the source of that info right now, unfortunately.

ALEX,, answer me this..ive always wondered..

100 calories, yet 0 carbs?? impossible no....sure isnt 25gm of protein...

curious cause i always pass on 1 or 2 beers after hockey, but could swear i read somewhere that after hockey or cardio as such its a great bevy...in moderation of course

Not too long ago Spanish scientist said that having a beer after a workout is beneficial because of the quick carbs in it.
I have never heard of alcohol converting test into estrogen tho.
From what i know alcohol only reduces Zinc levels in the body. Zinc is key in maintaining natural test production. Thus synthetic testosterone is not affected. So for a natural BB, alcohol might lower testosterone and leave the person with an hormonal imbalance. I seriously doubt alcohol converts test into estrogen. But having said that, alcohol will reduce gains, by hurting your liver and putting your body in "recovery" mode rather than "time to grow!" mode

Try it out. 2 beers is probably 20 or 30 grams of fast acting carbs depending on the beer. It probably would be enough to spike your insulin a bit which would knock you out of Keto but I wouldn't think it would take long to get back in if you're not eating other carbs. Light beers would be better.. I think Bud LIght has like 5 grams or so...10 grams total for 2 beers...your body may not even register that.
