What do you think the next big "thing" will be?

In general, what do you think will be the next big thing to look for... investment wise (metals/real estate/stocks/computers/oil etc) and please tell why...

In the US..

i think gas prices will go up to ~3$ very soon... I have a friend who's dad is on the energy commission (he owns ~1 billion in oil alone) and has a lot of inside info... he told us this.

I DO think the housing bubble will pop within the next 6-7 years... I think the babyboomers will access their retirement plans, sell their houses and move into retirement homes/exotic places etc, which will saturate the market in some areas, but I dont think it will do that much damage (overall)

investing... I think Valero will take off (now that thayve gotten rid of diamond shamrock)... google will hit ~$350 and stay there... movie theatres will continue to suffer... phone services will be on a big decline (with internet phones and crap like that coming on strong phone technology is skyrocketing right now)...

what do you think? thoughts?

Where will the smart money go next

There are so many rich and powerful people in the know. Its these people that move markets. They dont want to share their wealth or social circles with the common person, but if you can spot their next move, you could make big bucks.

I too feel the real estate market saw its best, and would not be suprised to see prices start moving south within the next year.

China is basically supporting our dollar, because they own so much of our debt.

The credit bubble is about to burst. The avg american carries about 10k in credit card debt compared to 2k 15 years ago.

So where is the smart money placing their bets? Energy? Commodities? Value stocks?

I wish I knew, and if I find out, I will definately come back to this thread and post what i have learned.

I also don't see a real softening in real estate. They will not make more land. Over the long haul it is still the best bet and will make fortunes for thousands of people.

All "markets" work in cycles. Go get a 50 year Ibbotson chart and you can track the overall trends in any market; Real Estate, Metals, Oils Futures. You'll see the same spikes and troughs in the same time frames over and over again.

You can, relatively cheaply, take options on any market system.
