Franchise coffee Shop vs. Well known smoothie shop

If you had to open one of the two in a major resort (vacation city) in an up and coming city which is slated to have an international airport coming in the next 2 years, what would you do?

coffee shop. i work at an international airport and the coffee shop sales blow away the smoothie shops.

coffee shop, more people drink coffee than smoothies, especially tired people who need to get up early to catch a flight,haha. I think the mark up in coffee beans would be more than fruit too

That's exactly what I was thinking! The location would be in Florida and although in this part of northern Florida where it will be placed, I think the 3 semi cold months out the year won't make an impact that big vs a smoothie shop.

I mean a lot of people make coffee a staple in their lives. Not to mention coffee is not seasonal since people drink coffee throughout the day even in the hot ass summertime.

You'll get those customers that are regulars and will go out their way each morning to stop at your store to get coffee even if they have coffee pot's at home or at work.

You'll have people picking up coffee for the whole office as well.

I truly think a Well known coffee shop even in Florida would still do better than a smoothie shop.

Especially when this particular franchise offers gourmet fudge, confections, soups, sandwiches, salads, and cold/ice coffee too.

Liquor stores and funeral homes are the only business recession proof.

This is just a tough time to be starting a business. You are a very brave soul. I've been struggle with a decision on what to do with my career which has stalled out. I'm working for a company that is teetering on the verge of either being sold or who knows what. My husband has his own business that is slow and we've been trying to figure out how I could quit my job and supplement his with something else. I feel for what you are going through.... just wanted to wish you the best for luck!

I love it when people can be successful with their own business.

Hey... just had a thought why not combine the two... coffee shop with a smoothie machines. Don't limit yourself...

Coffee, for sure! I despise the stuff, but it works for A LARGE SEGMENT of society.
Smoothies just seem too "healthy" for a lot of people!
There are some people in my office that go to a well-known coffee shop two or 3 times per day!

Smoothies are not just a complement to a main course meal. They have become their own course and people are lining up for them. There are more than 6000 smoothie shops in the United States, most of them franchises. With little experience needed, many smoothie franchises require little or no previous business background......:welcome:

Do a coffee shop with a few select smoothies there as well... Speaking of that Im making coffee right now and putting my pre workout drink together.... love my black coffee in the morning tho.
