How would you define fair share?
One phrasing that continues to bug me is the term "fair share" as it relates to taxation.
Things I understand: 1) If I go to the movie I buy one ticket. If you go you buy one ticket and so on. People tend to believe this is fair. 2) If I go to Publix, Kroger, Safeway, Costco, I typically am only made to pay for the items in my cart regardless of how much I put in mine or how little someone else puts in theirs. I consider this fair. 3) If I workout daily, watch my diet, am consistent with supplements, rest and recover, do research, and avoid harmful lifestyle decisions, I may look better than those who do not put in the work. I consider this fair. If the government spends $1,000,000 per year and their are 200,000 citizens the bill for each is $5. I consider this fair. Therein lies the problem. How many people in line at the government should I pay for? Is there a limit? I am do and am willing to pay more. But don't insinuate that I'm not paying my "fair" share. Nothing fair about it. Tell me you understand I'm carrying an inordinate load of the populace but you need me to pay even more and I will grudgingly help you, but don't insult me by calling it "fair". Can you guys tell I just about finished taxes today? BTW I paid them already, just haven't competed the return. Pekkerwood

Ahhh... tax time. It's so much fun. I was thinking the same thing when Everlast got tax notices for property tax from both the county and the city.... isn't one property tax enough, but to have to pay for both....
It just doesn't seem right that we will have to pay capitol gains tax on both our houses because they didn't sell within two years since our purchase of our new place. Yet, they both were our primary residence before we were married. I was in mine for 6 yrs and he was in his for 2 years. I could go on about unfair taxes for days....

Mooshue:
I believe that thought is along the lines of the "Fair Tax" initiative thats been kicked around by the likes of Johnny Isacckson and Neal Boortz etc. I happen to agree with it. I think that it would recapture so much more money from our "shadow" economy and repatraite so many dollars from overseas, by some estimates 13 trillion that we would be shocked.

I'm for a fair tax, but it has to be able to eliminate all the loopholes for the rich, poor, stupid, cripple and lazy. For example I don't want to be able to give 10k to a "tax Free" organization that is run by my wife and get a 10K write off, or if I decide to spend my limited income on spinners for my car and Nike's I don't receive a refund of money that I didn't put in. Eliminate capitol gains and inheritance taxes. Of course this will all happen when super models come to the sticks looking for love and people on food stamps say" I think I'll get a job, I don't want these anymore". J.R.
