What's one of the cheapest 'home owner's insurances' that provides one of the best services/coverage for the price? Is it better to go with a discount your your car insurance may cover, state farm, or any other....This is the first time I've had to deal with... Thanks for any help that's lended!!

We have State Farm and combined our auto policy with our homeowners. I think it saved us about $200 per year doing it that way.

Tyrone, take my advice, get State Farm. They are the best when it comes to claims. Forget about cheap companies, and here is why they are cheap. If you have a claim, alot of companies will try to low ball you on the amount of your claim, if your house burns down(I PRAY NOT) do you want to argue with them? No you want them to take care of you as soon as possible! Also, if your stuff is 10 years old, they will only pay you a depreciated price, EX: You paid $2000 for your plasma, it is 10 years old, they pay you $200, it costs you more to replace! GOOD NEWS, State Farm will pay whatever price it is to replace everything. Make sure you have enough insurance on your house to build it from scratch, just in case. I would advice(being in CA) earthquake insurance, generally runs $200 a year, a good investment! I have State Farm, my car got stolen, retail price on Kelly Blue Book was $13,000, State Farm paid me $18,000 Think twice about your insurance, we pray nothing happens, but just in case.

If you have a costco membership, they offer auto and home through ameriprise. I pay very little on each for great coverage, and have had awesome customer service. You can check it out on the costco website.

Thanks CB! I did check them out as the GF and I have Costco membership...Although, they offer such great customer service and coverage that they're way over what we can get right now from State Farm. Shit, Ameriprise said they come fix window through out the year for free, provide free inspections etc, etc....Just too much for us at this point.

I just saw a thing on the news where an older couple had to put in a claim on their house cause of Hurricane Sandy. The house was fucken destroyed. Allstate gave them a check for less then 11 grand! And that was it!!

Then to top it off, Allstate had used video footage of the same house (as well as others) for a commercial of showing how great the Insurance company is.

That is BS

Im in the business so I can give you a good answer. First Insurance is not about the name of the company but rather about coverage. Im not sure what state you live in. Coverage can vary from state to state. My suggestion is to contact a local independent agent. These guys represent various companies and do not work for just one and have many products vs just one product. Here is CA you can go to the dept of insurance website and check the complaint ratio. You will that statefarm, farmers etc.. have some of the worst track record!! They just spend lots of money advertising and claim they are the best. Many of their agent are under pressure from the company to sell so to have a competitive price they will sell you bare bones dwelling polices. Ask for an HO-5 type of policy in your area and make sure the policy covers personal injury, replacement cost on contents, and back up of sewer and drains. Again depending on your area different companies offer more competitive products. An independent agent/broker can shop the market for you. Some great companies are Nationwide/ Allied. Liberty Mutual, Safeco, Travelers, Hartford, Mercury. Pricing will vary based on location, agen of home, you age and education etc... Good luck

Pesty made some good points, but the ONLY way that you will get your personal property replaced is to carry "personal property replacement cost" coverage. Otherwise, you go on an actual cash value, the depreciation he referred to. EVERY company gives both options, replacement cost coverage costs more, but provides better coverage. State Farm is great at handling claims, so are many other companies though. Each company has to follow the state's rules, simple as that. If they don't, they face millions in fines, something they don't want. Insurance companies are in business to make moeny, and many will fight to not pay out the most $ unless it is cut and dry.
