How to Copyright?

Anyone know how to copyright stuff if you got an idea for an invention or something? I always wondered

Get a patent. A provisional patent lasts for I believe 1 year, and its cheap (I think about $250). Only a couple quick papers to fill out as well. After a year, you'll need a non provisional patent which is much more expensive and will require you to hire a patent attorney. As soon as you file for the provisional, you can claim "patent pending" which is usually enough to keep people away. PM me if you want more info. I am going through the process right now as well.

A lawyer told me once to start by writing the details of your idea down before you talk to any body about it. Then put it in a envelope and seal it. Put your address on it and mail it to yourself. DON'T OPEN IT when you get it. The envelope will be dated. Keep this in a safe place for your records. This keeps it documented as to when you came up with the idea. If you ever have to go to court over it, the judge can open the seal envelope and your idea will be detailed and dated.
